  • Oversee the HVAC scope across multiple concurrent projects, maintaining quality, consistency, and adherence to established schedules and milestones.
  • Set clear technical requirements, project milestones, and deliverables for mechanical engineering teams and ensure they are met.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, internal design reviews, and coordination meetings with architects, owners, and consultants to align expectations and resolve issues.
  • Resolve complex HVAC design challenges and provide final technical determinations when design decisions require sr.-level judgment.
  • Meet regularly with engineers and designers producing HVAC work to provide guidance, feedback, and coaching on technical and professional matters.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in HVAC design fundamentals, advanced technical concepts, professional judgment, and licensure development.
  • Hire mechanical engineering staff and coordinate onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development activities within the department.
  • Promote accountability, technical rigor, and continuous improvement within the mechanical engineering team.
  • Assist leadership in defining and executing HVAC design strategies that align with broader company objectives and market positioning.
  • Prepare and manage the mechanical engineering department’s budget, staffing plans, and resource requirements to support current and future project workloads.
  • Contribute to long-term planning for future development, capacity growth, and expanded service offerings in mechanical engineering.
  • Implement innovative tools, workflows, and technologies to improve engineering efficiency, quality, and consistency of deliverables.
  • Review, develop, and update internal policies, procedures, and standards related to mechanical engineering processes and HVAC design practices.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with HVAC equipment manufacturers and sales representatives to stay informed about products and technologies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local installing contractors and trade partners to support successful project execution and constructability.
  • Serve as a technical ambassador for the firm by supporting proposal efforts, interviews, and client discussions as needed.
  • Support and enhance the company’s reputation for quality, professionalism, and engineering excellence in the marketplace.
  • Actively support and model the company’s values, culture, and commitment to professional integrity in day-to-day work.
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively with internal teams, clients, and external partners to facilitate collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and contribute to a positive, growth-oriented workplace culture.
  • Apply strong project management skills to plan, organize, and track HVAC engineering tasks, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.

  • Thorough knowledge of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), ASHRAE standards, local AHJ requirements, and applicable energy and sustainability codes.
  • Mechanical engineering expertise with the ability to exercise sound professional judgment and serve as Engineer of Record.
