Job description

Codeworks, an LRS company, is seeking a Network Engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, strengthening enterprise security, and ensuring reliable connectivity across mission-critical environments for a contract position. This fully remote opportunity is open to Wisconsin residents and offers the chance to support and modernize a large-scale network environment while collaborating with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver secure, high-performing services.

Candidates must currently reside in Wisconsin. Relocation is not available for this position. Occasional onsite visits or travel within Wisconsin may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, maintain, and secure enterprise LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall, and cloud-based network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, systems administration, and application teams to deliver reliable and scalable network services.
  • Plan and execute network modernization initiatives, including hardware refreshes, infrastructure upgrades, and statewide deployments.
  • Configure, optimize, and support routers, switches, firewalls, VPN technologies, authentication services, and cloud networking solutions.
  • Monitor network health, availability, throughput, latency, utilization, and security while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution for complex network and infrastructure challenges.
  • Maintain network architecture diagrams, standards, operational documentation, and security configurations.
  • Implement network automation and standardization initiatives using scripting and configuration management tools.
  • Manage vulnerability assessments, remediation efforts, and compliance-related activities.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders on project planning, Statements of Work (SOWs), timelines, and implementation strategies.
  • Participate in planned maintenance windows and provide support during critical incidents when required.
Qualifications
  • 11+ years of experience designing, implementing, securing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-based networking environments.
  • Strong expertise with LAN/WAN technologies, including routing, switching, VLANs, QoS, NAT, static and dynamic routing, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators, and secure remote access solutions.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, ACLs, routing protocols, network authentication, and encryption technologies.
  • Experience monitoring network health, performance, capacity, and availability while identifying trends and optimization opportunities.
  • Proven troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience involving complex network environments.
  • Experience documenting network architecture, configurations, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Experience supporting environments with regulatory and security compliance requirements.
  • Experience performing vulnerability assessments, remediation activities, and security reviews.
  • Experience working collaboratively within Agile or similar project delivery environments.
  • Strong written, verbal, and customer service skills.
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid-networking architectures.
  • Experience implementing role-based and policy-based access controls.
  • Experience with network automation using scripting technologies.
  • Experience planning and executing multi-site infrastructure upgrades.
  • Experience developing Statements of Work (SOWs), project scopes, and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
