To thrive as a Remote Interior Design Lecturer, you need a solid background in interior design, teaching experience, and usually a relevant degree such as a BFA or MFA. Familiarity with online learning platforms, design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp, and digital presentation tools is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and the ability to engage and motivate students in a virtual environment are essential soft skills. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, student engagement, and adaptability to remote teaching challenges.

Job description

Company Overview

Schenkel Shultz is an award-winning architecture and interior design studio known for design excellence and a commitment to serving the unique needs of each client. Through thoughtful design, the firm creates places that strengthen communities and connect people to their surroundings.

Across Schenkel Shultz’s three Florida studios, a diverse team of architects, interior designers, graphic designers, marketers, technical production professionals, and construction administrators work collaboratively to deliver impactful projects. Creativity is embedded throughout the organization and brings the team together around a shared purpose in everything they do.

Schenkel Shultz’s portfolio spans civic, educational, aviation, cultural, and commercial work throughout Florida and the Southeast, with international projects in Puerto Rico, Germany, and Japan.

Position Summary

Schenkel Shultz is looking for an experienced Senior Interior Designer to serve as a cornerstone of their Orlando studio. This role is ideal for a creative, collaborative, and technically skilled design professional who can lead interior design efforts while mentoring others and contributing within a fully integrated, multidisciplinary studio.

This is not a siloed interior design role. Interior design is a defining offering at Schenkel Shultz, and this person will help elevate the quality, creativity, and execution of projects across the firm.

What You’ll Do

Design Leadership & Execution Lead the full interior design process across all phases, from conceptual development through construction documentation; including FF&E specification, package development, and budget review. You will bring a sophisticated, forward-thinking design sensibility to every project, translating deeply rooted concepts into compelling, cohesive spatial narratives in close collaboration with our Design Partner, Ekta Desai. You will also participate in client presentations and consultant coordination efforts. Helping position interior design as a strength of the firm.

Studio Resource & Mentorship Your expertise extends beyond your own project assignments. The studio looks to you as a go-to resource for interior design guidance across all active work, answering questions, shaping decisions, and elevating the quality of projects even when you're not directly leading them. You will actively inspire the broader team around the value and potential of interior design as a differentiator for clients and pursuits.

Integrated Practice Our studio operates as one team. During periods when dedicated interior design scope is limited, you will contribute to architectural design and production work (e.g. drafting, rendering, and documentation) with the same energy and ownership you bring to your core discipline. A "jump in" mindset is essential here.

Construction Administration You will support construction administration activities including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and periodic site observations, ensuring design intent is carried through to completion.

Sustainable Design Stewardship Sustainability is integral to our design philosophy, not a checkbox. You will embed stewardship principles into your interior design approach and contribute to the studio's broader commitment to design excellence through responsible, integrated decision-making.

Team & Schedule Management You will help manage the interior design team's workload, project schedules, and resources. Balancing your own deliverables while keeping the team on track and accountable.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional interior design experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in interior design within an integrated architectural practice

  • Proven ability to concept, present, and execute sophisticated design solutions across diverse building types

  • Proficiency in Revit, including modeling, documentation, and rendering

  • Proficiency in SketchUp for design exploration and ideation

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

  • Strong collaboration skills across all levels of a studio environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
