Title: Sr. Legal Specialist - Provider Solutions
Location: Atlanta, GA; Columbus, OH; Dallas or The Woodlands, TX (PREFERRED)
Onsite/Remote/Hybrid: Remote
POSITION SUMMARY
McKesson's General Counsel Organization (GCO) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Specialist to support Provider Solutions, including businesses such as GPO, Specialty Distribution, Biologics, and Intrafusion. All work in this role is performed under the supervision of a licensed attorney. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned legal professional who combines strong legal judgment with demonstrated leadership in process improvement, workflow optimization, and legal operations. The Senior Legal Specialist operates with a high degree of independence, serves as a key point of contact for a broad range of legal matters, including issue spotting, triage, and matter coordination, and partners closely with supervising attorneys and business stakeholders. This position advances scalable, efficient, and technology-enabled legal operations across the organization while supporting high-quality, consistent legal and contracting outcomes, in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment where partnership and shared ownership are core to how work gets done.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for a broad range of legal matters within Provider Solutions and across Oncology and Multispecialty, independently identifying and analyzing legal, regulatory, and business issues; exercising mature professional judgment to determine appropriate paths forward; and engaging supervising attorneys strategically on novel, high-risk, or precedent-setting matters.
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives across legal operations, including enhancing intake and triage models, standardizing contracting processes, templates, and playbooks, optimizing workflows, and advancing scalable, efficient, and high-quality legal operations across Provider Solutions.
  • Identify legal, regulatory, and business risks; assess potential impact; propose practical mitigation strategies; communicate recommended positions in clear, business-focused terms; and drive efficient issue resolution through standardized, scalable approaches where appropriate.
  • Review, analyze, and negotiate commercial agreements and related documentation, utilizing approved templates and standard positions where available, promoting consistency and efficiency in contract execution, and escalating non-standard issues as appropriate.
  • Agreement types may include, without limitation, complex service agreements, data sharing and data access agreements, GPO agreements and amendments, HCP consulting and professional services agreements, technology and software services agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with privacy, compliance, security, finance, IT, and other stakeholders to support timely, informed decision-making and streamlined execution of legal and contracting workflows.
  • Apply AI-enabled and other technology-enabled tools, together with sound judgment, to produce high-quality contract summaries, including in support of M&A activities and integrations, as well as briefing materials and other work product for attorneys and business stakeholders; support streamlined legal operations and improved turnaround times.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE
  • Matters are advanced efficiently and consistently, applying sound judgment and a digital-first, continuous-improvement mindset, including effective use of streamlined, scalable workflows and technology-enabled tools, and engaging supervising attorneys proactively on novel, high-risk, or precedent-setting issues.
  • Business partners experience Legal as customer-first and outcomes-oriented: guidance is practical, risks are clearly framed, and collaboration across functions reduces friction, streamlines legal and contracting workflows, and accelerates decision-making that enables the business.
  • Legal and contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and workflows are modernized and scaled, including thoughtful adoption of AI-enabled tools where appropriate, with measurable improvements in cycle time, quality, consistency, operational efficiency, and the employee and stakeholder experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated mature professional judgment in navigating legal and business considerations, including the ability to assess risk, exercise discretion, and escalate thoughtfully.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain risk and recommended paths forward in clear, business-focused terms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting healthcare businesses, including GPOs, specialty distribution, biologics, multispecialty or other regulated healthcare services.
  • Strong partnership with privacy, compliance, data governance, and security teams on legal and contracting matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives (e.g., playbooks, templates, workflow redesign, CLM tools, or other legal technology solutions).
  • In-house legal or legal operations experience, including support for contracting or workflow management practices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Typically requires approximately 7+ years of relevant legal experience in a legal specialist, paralegal, or similar advanced legal support role, including substantial commercial contracting exposure and meaningful involvement in process improvement, workflow optimization, or legal operations initiatives.
  • In-house legal or legal operations experience preferred.

OTHER
  • This description is general in nature and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet company goals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & TYPICAL EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION
  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
