As a Senior Sales Underwriter - Inland Marine, you will build and maintain relationships, drive written premium growth, and maintain renewal retention goals while delivering a high degree of customer satisfaction within assigned territory.  You'll apply Underwriting, Sales, and Distribution Management skills to manage the overall book of business to achieve profitability goals.

  • Underwriting Analysis, Coverage, and Pricing skills: 
    • Proficiency assessing intricate risks across various industries utilizing historical data and industry trends to make well-informed decisions devising comprehensive risk management plans. 
    • Interpret complex financial data, evaluates financial stability and uses financial insights to guide risk assessments and pricing strategies. 
    • Strong knowledge of loss prevention tactics to collaborate with risk engineering professionals for the purpose of devising loss prevention programs and risk mitigation solutions. 
    • Developing complex policies that balance comprehensive coverage with accurate pricing, effective utilization of endorsements and specialized coverage options. 
    • Ability to marry coverages offered with appropriately developed coverage terms, limits and pricing based on strong aptitude and understanding of all coverage components.
  • Underwriting & Compliance skills: 
    • Engaging appropriate resources and internal and external stakeholders at the appropriate times to deliver the best possible outcome in line with company standards.
    • Continuous improvement mindset and offers suggestions for  efficiencies.
      Insurance law and regulations, to ensure that policies meet legal requirements, and provides guidance on complex compliance issues. 
    • Expertise in creating detailed and organized documentation that clearly   outlines underwriting decisions.
  • Sales Acumen: 
    • Account service, account management, cross-selling, business development, marketing strategy and positioning, negotiations, prospecting and qualifying, solution development, and competitive analysis.
  • Distribution Management skills:
    • Consultative and relationship management skills needed to build strong relationships with agency partners to drive profitable submissions.
    • Prepare for and conduct effective agency review meetings that serve the goals of BFM and agent partners.

What you'll need to have:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent job-related experience.
  • 5+ years insurance underwriting experience.
  • 5+ years of monoline Inland Marine insurance underwriting experience.
  • Successful history of production underwriting.
  • Excellent relationship management and strategic sales acumen. 
  • Able to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong collaboration, customer focus and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Valid drivers license.
