Responsibilities

The Senior Sales Underwriter builds and maintains relationships within an assigned territory, drives written premium growth, and achieves renewal retention and profitability goals while delivering a high degree of customer satisfaction. The role applies advanced underwriting, sales, and distribution management skills to manage the overall book of business.

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Apply advanced-level underwriting analysis, coverage, and pricing skills to evaluate complex risks.
  • Assess intricate risks across various industries using historical data and industry trends to make informed decisions and develop comprehensive risk management plans.
  • Interpret complex financial data, evaluate financial stability, and use financial insights to guide risk assessments and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with risk engineering professionals to devise loss prevention programs and risk mitigation solutions.
  • Develop complex policies that balance comprehensive coverage with accurate pricing, including effective use of endorsements and specialized coverage options.
  • Align coverages offered with appropriately developed coverage terms, limits, and pricing based on a strong understanding of coverage components.
  • Apply advanced-level underwriting process and compliance skills to ensure policies meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate tasks by engaging appropriate internal and external resources and stakeholders at the right times to deliver optimal outcomes in line with company standards.
  • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset and offer suggestions to enhance efficiency.
  • Utilize knowledge of insurance law and regulations to provide guidance on complex compliance issues.
  • Create detailed and organized documentation that clearly outlines underwriting decisions.
  • Apply advanced-level sales acumen to support account service, account management, cross-selling, business development, marketing strategy and positioning, negotiations, prospecting and qualifying, solution development, and competitive analysis.
  • Apply advanced-level distribution management skills to manage and grow agency relationships.
  • Build strong consultative and relationship-based partnerships with agency partners to drive profitable submissions.
  • Prepare for and conduct effective agency review meetings that support the goals of Berkley Fire & Marine Underwriters and agent partners.
