Job description

Insurance Defense Attorney
---THIS POSITION IS REMOTE ANYWHERE IN GEORGIA FOR 3RD YEAR ASSOCIATES TO SENIOR COUNSEL LEVEL---

We are an AmLaw 100 full service law firm advising businesses, institutions, and individuals on complex legal and strategic matters. Our work is recognized by respected industry observers, reflecting a strong reputation for practical counsel and trusted client service. We bring together talented professionals who value collaboration, accountability, and solutions that support meaningful business and community outcomes. Joining our team means contributing to high quality work in a people focused environment where professional growth, strong relationships, and purposeful service are central to how we operate.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Insurance Defense Attorney (Associate) to join our litigation team and provide effective, client-focused defense on behalf of insurance carriers. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload of first- and third-party claims, develop defense strategies, drive case resolution through motion practice, settlement negotiation and trial when required, and deliver timely, cost-conscious representation that protects insurer interests and reduces exposure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a docket of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, including coverage disputes, bodily injury, property damage and subrogation claims.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation documents with accuracy and professional quality.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive written memoranda and briefs on case-dispositive and evidentiary issues.
  • Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses for deposition and trial testimony and coordinate expert witnesses.
  • Develop and execute case strategies with an emphasis on early but prudent resolution to limit exposure and litigation costs.
  • Prepare for and try cases as necessary, including jury selection, witness examination, and presentation of evidence.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and recommend resolution strategies to clients based on thorough cost-benefit analyses.
  • Maintain open, responsive communication with insurer clients, claims representatives, and internal teams; provide regular status updates and litigation forecasts.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff, delegate assignments, and review work product for quality and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate time and billing records and adhere to firm and client billing guidelines and litigation budgets.
  • Utilize case management and eDiscovery tools to organize files, manage deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • 3+ years of experience as an associate practicing insurance defense litigation; demonstrated courtroom and deposition experience preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of civil procedure, evidence rules, and substantive areas relevant to insurance defense (e.g., negligence, property damage, coverage law).
  • Strong drafting, oral advocacy and negotiation skills, with a record of producing high-quality pleadings and briefs.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize deadlines and work independently while collaborating with team members.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and paralegals is a plus.
  • Familiarity with eDiscovery workflows, case management software, and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Excellent client-facing skills: clear communication, responsiveness, and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical recommendations.
  • Detail-oriented, ethical, and committed to delivering cost-effective legal solutions for insurance clients.
