What does a remote insurance agent do?

As a remote insurance agent, you work from home to increase the sales of insurance policies. This often includes auto, life, home, health, travel, and other forms of insurance. In this role, you may explain the benefits of each plan to customers, follow up on a list of leads, and address customer concerns and objections. Other duties include responding to online inquiries and providing help to existing customers, rather than exclusively focusing on generating sales for new products. Some details of this job depend on the type of insurance you sell. For example, if you sell customized insurance packages, you may occasionally visit clients to assess any risks associated with their policies.

What is a remote insurance agent?

Remote insurance agents are licensed professionals who help clients choose and manage insurance policies while working from a location outside of a traditional office, such as from home. They communicate with clients mainly through phone, email, or online platforms to assess needs, provide quotes, and facilitate policy purchases or changes. This remote setup offers flexibility for both the agent and the clients, often leading to extended service hours. Remote insurance agents must still comply with all licensing requirements and regulations, just like their in-office counterparts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote insurance agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Insurance Agent, you need a strong understanding of insurance products, sales techniques, and typically a state-issued insurance license. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, virtual communication platforms, and quoting tools is also essential. Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to build trust remotely distinguish high performers in this role. These skills are vital for effectively reaching clients, closing sales, and maintaining compliance while working independently from a remote setting.

What is the best insurance company to work for remotely?

For remote insurance agents, companies like State Farm, Allstate, and Progressive are known for offering remote work opportunities, competitive pay, and training programs. Job description

About Our Client
Our insurance business is a team of insurance professionals based out of Greenville, South Carolina that is rapidly growing. We are committed to serving the families and businesses that we protect by providing custom-tailored insurance solutions. Our culture is focused on continual improvement and innovation to ensure the best customer experience. We prioritize our clients' interests and strive to put them in the best position possible.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Commercial Lines Producer to join our growing sales team. In this role, you'll prospect and write new commercial accounts with established businesses across a wide range of industries. The accounts you target will typically be 3 or more years in operation with at least 5 employees, and between $20K and $400K in premium. You'll have the backing of an experienced service team, strong carrier relationships, and the tools and resources to compete for and win accounts at a high level. This isn't a role where you're figuring things out on your own; you'll be supported by people who know how to move fast, solve problems, and get deals across the finish line. We're looking for someone who brings the same energy and holds themselves to the same standard. You'll be calling on owners, CEOs, CFOs, and controllers: seasoned executives who evaluate vendors and advisors quickly and expect a high level of professionalism and expertise from the first conversation. Your key responsibilities may include:
  • Prospecting for new business and managing a pipeline of commercial accounts
  • Meeting with business owners and financial decision-makers to understand their exposure and recommend the right coverage
  • Making presentations to decision-makers to establish and win their business
  • Writing new business within the company and carrier guidelines
  • Building long-term client relationships through honest, consultative service
  • Staying current on DOI regulations and agency compliance requirements
  • Participating in various incentive programs and contests designated to drive sales and exceed production goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in insurance
  • Commercial insurance sales experience
  • An active Property and Casualty License is required
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills
  • Exceptional negotiation and persuasion abilities.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to prospect, follow up consistently, and manage a sales pipeline
  • Comfortable working in person and networking within the local community

Benefits
This role starts with:
  • Base Salary ranging from $50,000-$100,000 + commission
  • 50% commission on new business; 30% commission on renewals
  • Simple IRA - contributes 3% of employee's salary
  • Health (additional compensation available for private plans)
  • Dental - Employee Paid in Program
  • Vision - Employee Paid in Program
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Holidays
  • Paid Vacations
