Job description

We are looking for a skilled and client-focused Tax Manager to join our team as a key leader.

The Tax Manager is responsible for the review of tax returns (partnership/corporate), conduct research, coordinate year-end planning, calculate quarterly estimates, and manage other projects as needed. This includes managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously. Tasks are typically conducted with little to no supervision but under the review of a Partner or directly from the client. Delegation and supervisory responsibilities will occur with less experienced staff. This position may also involve working cross-departmentally with other Boulay Departments (most typically audit and accounting advisory) to effectively accomplish projects and tasks.

To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation. 

Tax Compliance, Client Management, and Technical Support 

  • Review advanced tax computations, workpapers, and tax entries 
  • Assist clients with bookkeeping and adjusting journal entries 
  • Review tax returns (individual, partnership, multistate, corporate, and other) 
  • May be authorized to sign tax returns in the course of this role 
  • Manage year-end planning and quarterly tax estimates 
  • Address IRS or State Taxing Authority notices and provide a timely response 
  • Review and assist in researching technical issues 
  • Verify the validity and accuracy of client financial matters 
  • Initiate and manage client communications 
  • Identify and communicate issues and tax planning ideas with a Partner

Engagement Management, Operations, and Financial Oversight 

    • Coordinate, plan, and schedule workflow for effective engagement management 
    • Organize and coordinate clients' income tax data for accurate and timely completion 
    • Delegate and oversee the initial preparation and set-up of client files 
    • Delegate preparation of payroll and quarterly/year-end payroll tax returns 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance degree, with 150 credit hours 
  • 6+ years of progressively challenging Public Accounting experience 
  • CPA, J.D, or EA 
  • Solid track record of career achievements and work quality 
  • Tax preparation and review experience (Individual and/or Business) 
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in various accounting and other software, including Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Revenue Code, tax law, and tax processes 
  • Familiarity with financial statement procedures and the ability to distinguish between material and immaterial items 
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and knowledge of review, compilation, and auditing standards 

The annual salary range for this position is: $110,000 - $165,000. This salary range reflects the anticipated responsibilities and qualifications of a successful candidate for this role. Final compensation may vary depending upon an individual's experience, knowledge, and skills. Individuals may be eligible for additional compensation in the form of incentives, commissions, profit sharing, and more, depending on the role.
