Description & Requirements
Maximus is currently seeking a Senior Director of Cybersecurity Innovation. In this role, you will lead engineering, compliance, and advanced solution development in support of federal programs. This role is responsible for driving innovation in cybersecurity compliance through the application of artificial intelligence and modern security frameworks.
The position oversees traditional Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability across cloud-based and software development environments. In parallel, the role advances adoption of emerging approaches such as Responsible AI, Zero Trust architecture, and secure DevSecOps practices.
This leader will enable and accelerate secure AI adoption across federal programs, while navigating complex regulatory requirements and ensuring alignment with FedRAMP and other federal compliance standards.
This is a remote position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct activities that have a significant impact to the overall achievement of all information security results on the program.
- Provide oversight and consultation on difficult security architecture and security engineering tasks.
- Develop, implement, and manage strategic project/client information security monitoring and operations to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information owned by the program.
- Responsible for the relationship with client security team counterparts and Information Security Team budget, as well as providing insight on Information Security issues to program leadership. Communicate and influence senior leadership regarding matters of strategic Information Security importance to the program. Frequently conduct briefings to senior leaders both within and outside of the program.
- Manage a mid-sized team that is led by Directors and Sr. Managers. Responsible for hiring, firing, promotions and reward authority within the Information Security Group.
Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead cybersecurity engineering, compliance, and innovation initiatives for federal programs.
- Oversee RMF implementation and continuous monitoring to ensure compliance in cloud and development environments.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled solutions to improve cybersecurity operations, efficiency, and compliance outcomes.
- Define and implement strategies for Responsible AI, Zero Trust architecture, and DevSecOps maturity.
- Guide secure deployment of AI solutions within FedRAMP-authorized environments.
- Partner with government stakeholders to interpret and meet evolving cybersecurity and AI regulatory requirements.
- Advance secure software engineering practices through integrated cybersecurity controls.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 12-15 years of related professional experience.
- Advanced management and leadership knowledge leading information security teams required.
- Highly technical role with previous information security architecture experience required.
Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline. Additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- 12-15+ years of cybersecurity experience supporting federal programs, including leadership roles spanning strategy, planning, innovation and compliance
- CISSP certification is required.
- Extensive knowledge of RMF processes and controls for federal programs, including NIST 800-53 control implementation, security control assessments (SCA), system authorization (ATO), continuous monitoring, and POA&M management.
- Demonstrated experience applying Generative AI to cybersecurity or compliance challenges.
- Strong background in implementing security controls within DevSecOps pipelines.
- Deep understanding of Zero Trust principles and architectures.
- Knowledge of vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and threat mitigation techniques.
- Expertise in cloud architecture and cybersecurity best practices (AWS, Azure, or similar).
- Strong foundation in systems engineering principles and secure system design.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- AWS Cloud certification.
- SAFe Agile certification.
- Formal education, training, or certifications in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.
