What is a remote industrial engineering job?

A Remote Industrial Engineering job involves applying industrial engineering principles to optimize systems, processes, and workflows while working from a remote location. Responsibilities may include process analysis, efficiency improvements, supply chain management, and data analysis using digital tools. Remote industrial engineers collaborate with teams virtually, leveraging software for simulations, project management, and communication. This role is common in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and technology industries where process optimization is crucial. Effective time management, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with remote collaboration tools are essential for success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote industrial engineering?

To succeed as a Remote Industrial Engineer, you need a solid understanding of process optimization, data analysis, and systems engineering, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related field. Proficiency with statistical software, CAD tools, project management platforms, and Six Sigma or Lean certification is commonly required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and collaboration skills are essential soft skills, especially in a remote setting. These competencies are vital for effectively improving processes, reducing costs, and ensuring seamless coordination with distributed teams and stakeholders.

What are some typical challenges faced by industrial engineers working remotely, and how can they be overcome?

Remote industrial engineers often face challenges such as coordinating with onsite teams, accessing facility data, and maintaining clear communication across time zones or locations. These can be addressed by leveraging collaborative tools like video conferencing, digital workflow systems, and shared project management platforms to stay connected with coworkers and access necessary information. Proactively scheduling virtual check-ins and clarifying goals or expectations also help bridge any gaps caused by physical distance. Staying self-disciplined and organized is crucial for managing tasks and delivering impactful results in a remote environment.

Can you work remotely as a remote industrial engineer?

Remote industrial engineering jobs are available, especially in roles involving data analysis, process optimization, and software tools like CAD or simulation programs. Many companies offer remote or hybrid arrangements, but some tasks requiring on-site presence, such as equipment maintenance or factory supervision, may limit remote work options.

Is there a demand for remote industrial engineers?

Remote industrial engineering roles are increasingly in demand as companies seek flexible work arrangements and digital collaboration tools. Skills in process optimization, data analysis, and proficiency with software like CAD or ERP systems enhance employability in remote settings.

Job description

Join our team as a Project Engineer, where you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering innovative engineering solutions. At ENTRUST Solutions Group, we’re proud to be an industry leader in engineering and consulting services—helping modernize, protect, and strengthen critical infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, collaboration, and seeing their designs come to life in real-world industrial environments.

We’re seeking an Electrical Project Engineer with experience in low to medium voltage power systems, particularly within industrial or plant settings. You’ll lead detailed design efforts across complex projects, performing engineering calculations and power system studies (arc flash, short circuit, coordination) while working closely with designers to produce high-quality drawing packages. Your background in industrial facilities will be key as you design around existing systems, site constraints, and operational needs.

In addition to technical design, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—including civil/structural, protection & controls, and automation—to deliver cohesive solutions. You’ll also engage with clients through site visits and project discussions, while having opportunities to mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This role is designated as remote, giving you the flexibility to primarily work from home while staying actively connected to your team and projects. We value collaboration and responsiveness, so we ask our remote team members to be available when in-office presence is needed—such as for client meetings, team events, or training sessions. This role may also require occasional travel for fieldwork or site visits depending on the project need.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.
  • This position pays between $90,000 and $100,000 annually and is an exempt position. Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with electrical modeling and simulation tools (ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower)
  • Experience in one or more industries such as refining, chemical/petrochemical, power generation, or manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
