The Role
CCC is seeking a Business Rule Software Engineer to support the design, development, migration, and maintenance of rule-based applications and decision services. This role is ideal for an engineer who has experience developing software solutions and an interest in working with business rules, rule repositories, and decision automation platforms.
As a Business Rule Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and modernization of CCC's rule engine capabilities, including ILOG JRules / IBM ODM-related solutions. You will work closely with product, engineering, architecture, QA, and business stakeholders to understand requirements, implement technical solutions, support testing, and help ensure reliable delivery of rule-based functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components and rule-based applications.
  • Support ILOG JRules / IBM ODM development, migration, and modernization efforts.
  • Assist with analysis of existing rule repositories and support rule inventory, cleanup, and migration activities.
  • Collaborate with business and product stakeholders to understand functional requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Build and support decision services that align with business rules and application needs.
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of BOM/XOM models under guidance from senior engineers or architects.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code consistent with CCC engineering standards.
  • Participate in unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, and defect resolution.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and support production defect resolution.
  • Work with QA, Product Owners, Architects, and other engineers throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Document development activity, technical designs, and rule implementation details as needed.
  • Continue building knowledge of CCC products, platforms, business processes, and rule engine technologies.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of related software development experience.
  • Experience developing business applications using object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with Java or another modern programming language.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Experience with databases, SQL, APIs, and service-oriented application development.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and deliver with quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ILOG JRules, IBM ODM, or other business rule management systems.
  • Exposure to ILOG JRules migration or modernization projects.
  • Experience supporting rule repository analysis, cleanup, or rationalization.
  • Familiarity with BOM/XOM model design concepts.
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating them into decision services or rule-based solutions.
  • IBM ODM certification or IBM Business Automation certification.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based applications, CI/CD pipelines, or DevOps practices.
  • Experience supporting SaaS or customer-facing enterprise applications.
