Job description

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Division.

The Treatment Bureau operates as the state authority for the development, oversight, and delivery of appropriate mental health treatment programs for adults and substance use disorder treatment programs for adults and youth. 

The Substance Use Disorder Program Officer is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of substance use disorder programs. Responsibilities include performing duties related to contract procurement, state plans, waivers, Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM), and providing technical assistance. As well as identifying, developing, and implementing strategies within the contracts and assisting in the development and coordination of integrated programs and projects.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and behavioral health treatment services.

  • Knowledge of service development and performance monitoring.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

o    Bachelor's degree in human services, public health, or closely other related social or behavioral science degree.

o    Licensed Addictions Counselor preferred.

o    Master Degree is preferred.

o    Two years job-related experience in behavioral health services.

o    Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
