Job description

Position Overview

As a Contracted Evening Group Facilitator, your primary role will be to provide therapeutic support, education, and guidance to individuals participating in evening outpatient group sessions focused on mental health, substance use, trauma, and co-occurring disorders. Through your expertise in behavioral health, trauma-informed care, substance use treatment, and group dynamics, you will help create a safe, supportive, and recovery-oriented environment where individuals can explore challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and strengthen their emotional wellness and recovery skills.

This is a remote contracted position responsible for facilitating scheduled evening groups and completing all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Evening Group Facilitation:
    Lead and facilitate structured evening outpatient groups focused on mental health, substance use, recovery, coping skills, trauma, relapse prevention, and related behavioral health topics. Create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, personal insight, and peer support.
  2. Trauma-Informed and Recovery-Oriented Care:
    Apply trauma-informed principles and recovery-oriented practices when facilitating groups. Maintain an environment that promotes emotional safety, respect, empowerment, accountability, and healthy communication while remaining mindful of potential triggers and the impact of trauma and substance use on individuals.
  3. Mental Health and Substance Use Education:
    Provide psychoeducation and facilitate evidence-based discussions and activities related to mental health, substance use, recovery, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, coping skills, interpersonal relationships, and overall wellness.
  4. Individualized Treatment Support:
    Collaborate with the treatment team to support the individual treatment goals of group participants. Tailor group discussions and activities, when appropriate, to address the needs of individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  5. Promote Emotional Growth and Recovery:
    Facilitate therapeutic activities, discussions, and interventions that encourage participants to identify patterns of behavior, develop healthy coping mechanisms, improve emotional regulation, strengthen recovery skills, and build resilience.
  6. Maintain Professional and Confidentiality Standards:
    Adhere to applicable ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, HIPAA regulations, organizational policies, and professional scope of practice. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries in all interactions with participants.
  7. Documentation and Progress Monitoring:
    Complete accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation for each group session, including attendance, group notes, participant progress, interventions provided, and other required documentation. Ensure documentation is completed within required organizational and regulatory timeframes.
  8. Remote Group Facilitation:
    Conduct evening groups through the organization's approved secure telehealth platform. Maintain a professional, private, and appropriate environment for remote service delivery and follow all organizational telehealth procedures and requirements.
  9. Treatment Team Collaboration:
    Communicate appropriately with clinical and administrative staff regarding participant engagement, progress, concerns, and other information relevant to treatment. Participate in treatment team communication as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid California license as an LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PsyD, or other applicable behavioral health professional within scope of practice.
  • Alternatively, candidates providing substance use disorder services must possess an applicable CADAC certification or RADT certification, as appropriate to the duties and scope of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, mental health treatment, substance use treatment, trauma-informed care, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral health and substance use treatment approaches.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, recovery principles, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and healthy coping strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to create a supportive, non-judgmental, and respectful group environment.
  • Ability to facilitate engaging and structured evening groups in a remote/telehealth setting.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in a remote environment.
  • Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Reliable internet connection and access to a private, professional environment suitable for remote group facilitation.
