Aiken, SC - Hybrid role in the government / energy sector, based near Aiken, SC. Limited remote work may be available (VERY limited), our client prefers 100% on site

Our client seeks an Associate Engineer focused on cloud cybersecurity authorizations and compliance in support of federal government agency programs. The role will engage with FedRAMP applications, research requirements, and learn governance processes with mentorship from experienced cybersecurity staff.

*** The position follows an anticipated 6am to 4:30pm schedule.

We’re seeking a motivated, entry‑level Cybersecurity Engineer with an interest in cloud security, compliance, and authorization processes. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long‑term career in cybersecurity within highly regulated environments, supporting mission‑critical systems.

You’ll work alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals and receive hands‑on mentorship while supporting cloud security authorization activities, compliance documentation, and governance processes aligned to federal cybersecurity standards.

Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident with the ability to obtain an active clearance.  

Pay Rate: $27 - $33 per hour W2.

Responsibilities:
  • Support cloud security authorization and compliance activities
  • Assist with security documentation, assessments, and evidence collection
  • Work with compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, RMF, and NIST (800-series)
  • Conduct research and analysis related to cybersecurity policies and controls
  • Collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Participate in group problem-solving and peer reviews
  • Communicate findings clearly through strong written documentation
  • Follow established governance, risk, and compliance processes
  • Work onsite with limited telework flexibility
  • Assist senior cybersecurity staff with cloud security authorization packages
  • Support compliance efforts for cloud and enterprise systems
  • Research cybersecurity standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Help track and manage compliance artifacts and control implementations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of security processes and documentation
  • Learn and apply cybersecurity best practices in a regulated environment

Experience Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and participate in group problem solving.
  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts or frameworks such as FedRAMP, RMF, or NIST SP 800-series (Entry‑level to early‑career cybersecurity or IT background)
  • Familiarity with basic cybersecurity principles and frameworks (NIST preferred)
  • Exposure to enterprise IT environments or collaborative technical projects
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and regulatory standards
  • Ability to think critically and synthesize technical findings

Other preferred qualifications:

  • Preferred: exposure to enterprise IT environments and collaborative technical or research projects.
  • Preferred: experience with Microsoft cloud services such as Azure or M365 or other major SaaS platforms.
Education Requirements:

One of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, etc.)
  • Non‑IT Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of related experience
  • Associate degree with 4+ years of related experience
  • High school diploma with 6+ years of equivalent experience

Knowledge of computer and network digital systems used in business or process applications is required. Detailed knowledge in specific operating systems is desirable.
