Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a Senior System Administrator to lead operations, monitoring, and sustainment of secure, cloud-hosted environments supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise modernization effort. The position focuses on maintaining resilient, high-availability systems that underpin critical operations and data exchange across Service components and mission partners.
The System Administrator, Sr. will ensure continuous system health, compliance, and performance through proactive monitoring, patching, and configuration management, while collaborating with engineering, cybersecurity, and cloud operations teams.
This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
The System Administrator, Sr. will:
  • Install, configure, secure, and manage AWS GovCloud-based virtualized environments, including servers, applications, and storage systems.
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and connectivity across IL2-IL5 enclaves to ensure continuous operational availability.
  • Perform routine system health checks, including log analysis, service validation, and backup verification.
  • Apply system hardening standards (STIG/SRG) to ensure compliance with DoD and DISA security baselines.
  • Develop and maintain patch management procedures for operating systems, middleware, and storage infrastructure.
  • Implement automation scripts and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, or AWS Systems Manager.
  • Collaborate with network and security engineers to diagnose and resolve Tier 3 technical issues affecting mission-critical operations.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including backup validation and restoration testing.
  • Maintain system documentation, SOPs, and architectural diagrams in accordance with configuration management policies.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Boards (CABs) and contribute to configuration control and release planning.
  • Support continuous improvement activities by evaluating system performance data and recommending optimizations.
  • Coordinate with cloud hosting teams to ensure redundancy, scalability, and compliance across production and non-production environments.

Qualifications
Clearance Requirement:
  • Must hold an active Top Secret clearance.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in system administration or operations support for large-scale enterprise or defense environments.
  • Experience managing systems within AWS GovCloud or equivalent DoD cloud infrastructures.

Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong proficiency with Windows Server and Linux administration, including configuration, hardening, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and certificate management.
  • Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC) and associated management tools.
  • Experience implementing DISA STIGs, patch management, and compliance scanning (e.g., ACAS, Tenable).
  • Working knowledge of backup and recovery solutions, performance tuning, and system automation.
  • Understanding of ITIL and DevSecOps practices for integrated sustainment and change control.

Certifications (Preferred):
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570/8140 baseline certification.
  • Microsoft Certified: System Administrator (MCSA) or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.

Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex system environments.
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, with a focus on reliability and compliance.
  • Capable of managing multiple systems and priorities within a secure, mission-driven context.
