Description
Founded in 2004, BME Strategies is a Massachusetts-based consulting firm specializing in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs for local, regional, and state government partners. Our work supports evidence-based, community-driven solutions that strengthen public health systems and advance equity across the communities we serve. At BME, our clients are on the front lines of Public Health. Priorities may shift but our commitment to supporting our partners does not. We take pride in having multi-year, multi-project engagements, often working closely as an extension of their staff. Our success comes from our shared values: a bias toward action; optimistically collaborative; willingness to navigate ambiguity; minimal ego - no job is too small or big; pursuing the equitable solution; always learning, and; committed to quality at every stage.

  • May seek opportunities for proposal development support through narrative writing.

Responsibilities:
  • Document & Proposal Formatting: Design and format high-stakes business proposals, RFPs, and internal documents to ensure brand consistency and visual clarity.
  • Report Design: Transform technical public health data, evaluation findings, and strategic plans into visually engaging and easy-to-read reports.
  • Presentation Design: Create professional PowerPoint/Google Slides templates and custom presentations for client meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Brand Identity & Logo Design: Support the development of brand identities for clients and new initiatives, including logo creation, color palettes, and typography guidelines.
  • Accessibility (ADA Compliance): Ensure all visual deliverables align with ADA accessibility standards, including color contrast and screen-reader compatibility.
  • Marketing Collateral: Design digital and print assets such as brochures, one-pagers, social media graphics, and newsletter layouts.
  • Website Support: Assist with basic website updates, layout adjustments, and page creation within WordPress or a similar platform.
  • Act as a thought partner and/or support for design ideas/projects with team members.
Experience, Qualification, & Skills
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
    • Masters degree preferred; for specialized and/or technical roles, relevant experience may be substituted for a graduate degree.
  • 3-5 years of professional design experience, preferably within a consulting, agency, or public health environment.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in layout design, typography, and data visualization. A portfolio is required for consideration.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience designing for government or public health sectors.
  • Experience creating, designing, and scheduling social media posts using brand templates.
  • Successful track record of navigating ambiguous project environments.

Required Skills:
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and Canva.
  • Ability to explain and communicate design decisions as well as collaborate effectively with non-designers.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously and pivot between different projects and styles while maintaining visual consistency across projects.
  • Ability to translate requests from external partners into actionable design solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • A commitment to our shared values including collaboration, continuous learning and improvement, and a bias towards action. See our shared values here.

Preferred Skills:
  • Website management using the WordPress platform and Elementor.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and practices and whiteboarding/wireframing platforms (e.g. Figma, Mural, Miro).
