Seaman Corporation is seeking an Instructional Designer to join our HR team! This position will report to the Training & Development Specialist in Wooster, OH.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing instructional materials that enhance the learning experience of our associates for assigned training projects. The role involves collaborating with subject matter experts internally and externally to create engaging and effective learning content that aligns with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will apply instructional design principles, leverage technology, and incorporate feedback to continuously improve learning solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Use instructional design principles and adult learning theories to develop training programs for assigned projects.
  • Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand the target audience's training needs and use this information to set measurable learning objectives, design curriculum, and create engaging and clear instructional documents (i.e. job aids, reference guides, practice activities, and assessments) that support knowledge transfer and/or measure comprehension.
  • Improve the learner experience by ensuring accessibility, reducing friction points, and removing unnecessary barriers to learning.
  • Organize and maintain training databases and records for assigned projects; ensure systems are user-friendly and documents are updated as standard operating procedures or processes evolve.
  • Evaluate instructional materials and programs by analyzing learning data, assessments, and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Recommend process improvements, tools, technologies, or additional resources that will enhance training program(s), and support the implementation of these enhancements.
  • Assist with coaching trainers on instructional techniques, facilitation skills, and best practices in learning and development.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate training sessions and learning activities as needed.
  • Partner with project managers, trainers, HR/L&D, and other stakeholders to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Ensure training content conforms to and supports relevant established standards, safety or compliance requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to create unique and innovative instructional content that achieves the learning objectives of learners, including curriculum, e-learning, instructor-led training, and blended learning solutions; OR a Bachelor's or Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills, including persuasive verbal communication/facilitation skills and concise, technical writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency with learning design and development tools (i.e. Articulate, Adobe Captivate, video editing software, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in instructional design.
  • Experience within a customer service and/or operations environment.
