Job description

Overview of Position
As part of the Total Rewards & Wellbeing team, this role leads the strategy, governance, and continuous improvement of Assurant's global benefits programs, with primary accountability for global health and welfare benefits, leave and disability programs, and wellbeing initiatives. The role partners across regions to strengthen program consistency, improve efficiency, and enhance the employee experience, and ensure benefits programs remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with Assurant's Total Rewards strategy.
Global Benefits Strategy, Harmonization & Governance - 45%
  • Lead the evolution of Assurant's global benefits strategy to support business priorities, workforce needs, and Total Rewards objectives.
  • Build and maintain a global benefits inventory to identify gaps, reduce inconsistencies, strengthen governance, and prioritize harmonization opportunities.
  • Partner with regional HR teams, external consultants, and vendors to evaluate market competitiveness, program effectiveness, and governance practices.
  • Support global benefits reviews, benchmarking studies, M&A due diligence, integration planning, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Develop recommendations, insights, and executive-ready materials that enable informed leadership decisions.

Leave & Disability Program Management - 25%
  • Lead the strategy, governance, and ongoing administration of U.S. and global leave and disability programs to deliver consistent, compliant and employee-centered solutions.
  • Partner with WTW, carriers, and internal stakeholders to improve program design, processes, service delivery, and employee experience.
  • Monitor program performance, utilization trends, compliance requirements, operational effectiveness, and emerging trends to inform improvements and manage risk.
  • Identify opportunities to improve integration across leave, disability, accommodations, wellbeing, and benefits programs for a more seamless employee experience.
  • Drive program enhancements, vendor implementations, and future-state process improvements that increase efficiency and scalability.

Vendor Governance, Operations & Compliance - 20%
  • Manage key vendor relationships across health, wellbeing, leave, and disability programs, including business reviews, performance guarantees, renewals, and contract support.
  • Partner with Procurement, Legal, Risk Management, Finance, and HR stakeholders to strengthen vendor governance, controls, and regulatory oversight.
  • Oversee health and welfare compliance activities, audits, reporting obligations, plan documentation, and governance requirements.
  • Drive operational excellence through process documentation, reporting, issue resolution, and continuous improvement routines.

Wellbeing, Employee Experience & Insights - 10%
  • Support the development and execution of global wellbeing strategies focused on physical, emotional, financial, and social wellbeing across the workforce.
  • Leverage employee feedback, utilization data, and market insights to identify opportunities to improve engagement and program effectiveness.
  • Partner with Communications, HR teams, and employee networks to increase awareness and appreciation of benefits and wellbeing programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for employee experience and benefits navigation initiatives.

Travel is less than 5%
What are the requirements needed for this position?
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible benefits experience, including significant experience in global benefits strategy, governance, harmonization, and leave/disability program management.

Other Experience:
  • Demonstrated vendor management experience, including RFP support, renewals, contracting, business reviews, SLA/performance guarantee monitoring, and issue resolution.
  • Experience using benefits data, vendor reporting, and employee insights to develop recommendations and improve program performance.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, CAA transparency requirements, and other health and welfare compliance considerations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex benefits topics into leadership-ready materials.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work in a matrixed environment, and partner effectively across HR, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Communications, and external vendors.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
  • Experience leading global benefits inventories, country-by-country assessments, and benefits harmonization initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing leave administration platforms and disability programs in partnership with external consultants and vendors.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations with benefits governance and strategy development.

Pay Range:
$88,000.00 - $147,000.00
Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
