Remote Github Software Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Github Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Github Software Engineer, you need strong coding abilities (often in languages like Ruby, Go, or JavaScript), experience with version control systems, and a solid understanding of software development principles, typically backed by a relevant degree or significant professional experience. Familiarity with GitHub's ecosystem, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, and tools like Docker or Kubernetes is crucial, along with knowledge of automated testing frameworks. Exceptional written communication, self-motivation, and collaboration skills are essential for effective teamwork and problem-solving in a remote environment. These skills and qualities ensure you can contribute high-quality code, coordinate with distributed teams, and deliver reliable software solutions efficiently.

How does a Remote Github Software Engineer typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

As a Remote Github Software Engineer, effective collaboration often relies on asynchronous communication tools like GitHub Issues, Pull Requests, and project boards. Regularly updating documentation, leaving detailed code reviews, and participating in scheduled virtual meetings help ensure everyone stays aligned despite time differences. Strong written communication skills are essential, as much of the collaboration happens through comments and documentation rather than real-time discussions. This setup fosters flexibility but also requires proactive communication to avoid misunderstandings and project delays.

Job description

Creating a delightful customer experience from order creation to delivery is a key part of ezCater's mission. As a Software Engineer on our Finance Technology team, you will focus on building solutions that will transform ezCater's finance technology platform as ezCater scales and builds new features that enables an agentic commerce future. This will include building a first-class, modern tech stack that pairs ezCater's existing software solutions with AI-enabled tooling. You will focus on designing and implementing features for this new tech stack that will enable performant, safe, and compliant financial transactions for our customers and restaurant partners (RP). This includes credit card processing, invoicing, payouts to RPs, and calculating taxes.

We are just starting on our journey of building ezCater's payments platform of the future so this is an excellent role for an engineer who enjoys owning meaningful systems end-to-end, values collaborative design, and wants to help shape how a modern platform is built and evolved.

What You'll Do:
  • Take a lead role in designing and building services and features that will drive the transformation of our finance tech stack, in collaboration with Staff Engineers and Product.
  • Act like an ezCater owner and a software craftsperson, striking a balance of quality and speed while delivering customer impacting features.
  • Mentor developing engineers and contribute to engineering excellence across the organization.
  • Be part of an on-call rotation that we work to make as uneventful as possible
  • Have fun building meaningful software with awesome people.
What you have:
  • 3+ years of professional development experience, with a focus on backend technologies and building services using Go, Ruby on Rails, Java or similar languages.
  • Demonstrated success designing and consuming APIs (REST or GraphQL), plus working knowledge of relational SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and a demonstrated ability to integrate them into daily engineering workflows to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and automate routine development tasks. Eagerness to share AI best practices with peers is also a plus!
  • Experience designing, building, and scaling payment-processing and payout systems (e.g., credit card processing, invoicing, refunds, restaurant partner disbursements, tax calculation/reconciliation) in high-volume, customer-facing products.
  • Hands-on experience integrating with modern payment service providers and gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, card networks), with a strong understanding of payment lifecycles, settlement, chargebacks, and regulatory/compliance considerations (such as PCI and SCA).
  • A quality mindset: security best practices, automated testing clean code, code reviews, and CI/CD basics.
  • Practical experience using feature flags, telemetry, and safe rollout techniques to ship incrementally and derisk changes.
  • Experience triaging and investigating custom-impacting, production issues.
  • Track record collaborating with Product and Design to turn ambiguous problems into iterative deliveries and measurable outcomes.
  • Eagerness to give and receive feedback in a collaborative learning environment.
  • Friendly, flexible and pragmatic approach to work.

The national total target cash compensation range for this position, including base salary and bonus target, is $125,000 - $148,000 annually.*

*Please note: Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise and region & may vary from the amount above. This range does not represent additional compensation benefits (such as equity, 401K or medical, dental or vision insurance).
