What are Remote Genetics Plant Breeding jobs?

Remote Genetics Plant Breeding jobs involve using digital tools and technologies to conduct research, analyze genetic data, and develop new plant varieties from a remote location rather than in a traditional lab or field setting. Professionals in this field use software for data analysis, collaborate with teams online, and may oversee breeding programs or data collection remotely. This role typically requires a background in genetics, plant science, and bioinformatics, as well as strong communication and analytical skills. Remote Genetics Plant Breeders play a crucial role in developing crops with improved yield, disease resistance, and climate adaptability.

How does working remotely as a Genetics Plant Breeder affect collaboration with lab and field teams?

As a remote Genetics Plant Breeder, collaboration with on-site lab and field teams typically relies on digital communication tools such as video conferences, shared data platforms, and project management software. While you may not be physically present for daily fieldwork, you’ll coordinate closely with technicians and researchers to design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot challenges. Regular virtual meetings and detailed reporting help maintain alignment and project momentum. Adapting to remote work requires strong organizational and communication skills to ensure seamless collaboration across dispersed teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Genetics Plant Breeding Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Genetics Plant Breeding Specialist, you need a strong background in plant genetics, breeding methods, and statistical analysis, usually supported by a degree in plant science, genetics, or a related field. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, genetic mapping software, and data management platforms is commonly required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective virtual communication set top performers apart. These skills enable efficient development of improved plant varieties and collaboration across remote teams, driving innovation and productivity in agricultural research.

Technical Sales Representative - PNW & Treasure Valley

Ohalo

Ontario, OR • Remote

Full-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

Position: Technical Sales Representative
Territory: Washington · Oregon Columbia Basin · Treasure Valley ID/OR
Location: Remote / US
Type: Full-time

The Opportunity

Ohalo is hiring Technical Sales Representatives to help build and scale our commercial presence. This is a remote, field-based role with ownership of a defined geographic territory (Washington and Oregon Columbia Basin, Treasure Valley ID/OR). You will be responsible for managing our Founders Farm program within the designated territory, developing strong relationships with growers and partners, and most importantly driving seed sales as we bring new products to market.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an early-stage environment, enjoys being in the field, and wants to help shape how a new agricultural technology is commercialized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership in managing the defined sales territory (Washington and Oregon Columbia Basin, Treasure Valley ID/OR)
  • Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for Ohalo's Founders Farm program in the defined sales territory
  • Drive seed sales growth within the territory, from lead generation through close, carrying a quota
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with growers and other key stakeholders
  • Educate customers on Ohalo's technology, value proposition, and product performance
  • Collect and relay market feedback, customer insights, and competitive intelligence to internal teams
  • Professionally represent Ohalo at field days, grower meetings, and industry events
  • Travel regularly within the territory (~50%), including day trips and occasional overnight travel
  • Maintain accurate activity tracking and forecasting using company tools and CRM systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agronomy, plant science, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Deep passion for transformative change in agriculture and a genuine entrepreneurial mindset — you see yourself as the owner of a small business that is part of a much larger industry shift
  • 5+ years of experience in agricultural sales, seed sales, agronomy, or a related commercial role
  • Background in adjacent crops such as carrots, onions, or sugar beets, or vegetable seed sales strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with volcanic soil regions and regional vegetable processor networks is a plus
  • Familiarity with grower operations and agricultural production systems; knowledge of potato production is a bonus but not required
  • Proven ability to build trust-based relationships with growers and partners
  • Self-starter comfortable working remotely with minimal oversight
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory, with some required extended travel outside of the assigned sales geography
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills

Compensation

This role includes a competitive base salary, performance-based variable compensation, and an equity component.
