TRANSMISSION LINE DESIGNER

Location: Minnetonka, MN | Hybrid | Remote
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $60,000 - $90,000 (based on experience)

The Transmission Line Designer is responsible for developing accurate, construction ready transmission line drawings and project documentation. This role works closely with transmission line engineers, designers, survey personnel, and quality control reviewers to support the successful delivery of transmission line projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop accurate, construction ready transmission line drawings in AutoCAD under the direction of transmission line engineers, design criteria, survey information, client standards, and vendor data.
  • Prepare detailed structure framing and hardware assembly drawings, including insulators, conductor and OPGW attachments, grounding components, material callouts, and bills of material.
  • Produce and revise plan and profile sheets, structure details, general arrangements, crossing or permitting exhibits, construction details, and record drawings.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, survey personnel, and quality control reviewers to resolve discrepancies and incorporate review comments efficiently.
  • Perform thorough self-checks to confirm drawing accuracy, package completeness, constructability, proper document control, and compliance with EVS and client CAD standards.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews.
  • Identify and communicate potential design or drafting issues and assist in developing solutions.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • An associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred; directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of four years of transmission line drafting or design experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and experience producing organized, professional construction drawings and complete transmission line job packages.
  • Experience developing detailed transmission line hardware assemblies, structure framing details, plans and profiles, grounding details, material lists, and related construction documents.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office software, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with PLS CADD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, or GIS is a plus but is not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, calculations, design criteria, client standards, vendor drawings, survey information, and drawing markups.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, survey personnel, and project teams.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills when addressing design and drafting challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and complete work within established project deadlines.
