Job description

Sans is on a mission to build the next great consumer hardware brand, with a laser focus on products that help people live healthier lives at home. We started with a category-leading air purifier before expanding to a best-in-class countertop water purifier that actually works to eliminate harmful contaminants, and our product roadmap is just getting started.

We're a small, ambitious team that believes deeply in our ability to create a meaningful consumer brand. We move fast, learn quickly, and consistently outperform much larger competitors.

The Full Stack Engineer will build the software that powers both the customer experience and the internal systems behind Sans. This role spans our Shopify Hydrogen storefront, several Next.js applications, and a growing set of internal AI tools. You'll work closely with the Director of E-Commerce & Digital Experience on product direction and directly with the CEO on technical priorities. The work is hands-on, fast-moving, and highly visible. You'll spot a problem, build the fix, and see the impact quickly. This role will report to the CMO in the interim, but will ultimately report to the Director of E-Commerce & Digital Experience (current open role).

The ideal candidate is strong across the stack and already uses AI development tools as part of how they build. They should be excited by a wide range of problems, from storefront UX and conversion to data flows, AI features, and internal tools. They should be comfortable working without heavy process, able to move from idea to production quickly, and motivated by building things that make a small team much more effective.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Own and improve the Sans headless storefront built on Shopify Hydrogen and React Router, with a focus on conversion, performance, and a clean purchase experience
  • Build the dedicated commerce experience that will support our upcoming mobile app and create a seamless connection between web and app
  • Architect and ship customer-facing AI features, including a conversational recommendation experience that helps customers find the right product for their home, use case, and environment
  • Build systems that turn customer feedback into usable signal by pulling from support tickets, reviews, and social comments and making that information accessible across the company
  • Develop internal tools and AI-powered workflows that help teams move faster across operations, customer experience, and growth
  • Maintain and expand integrations across our ecommerce stack, including Klaviyo, Attentive, Gorgias, and similar platforms, with clear ownership of APIs, webhooks, and data flows
  • Partner with the Head of Digital, Creative, and CX teams to translate customer needs and business priorities into shipped software
  • Contribute to technical strategy and help shape how Sans uses modern tooling, including AI-assisted development, to build faster and operate more effectively
  • This is an individual contributor role with broad ownership across customer-facing products and internal software systems.

Requirements

Experience
  • 4-7 years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production applications
  • Strong React and TypeScript skills. This is the foundation of most of what we build
  • Experience with the Shopify ecosystem, including Shopify APIs such as the Storefront API and Admin API. Hands-on Hydrogen or headless Shopify experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong Next.js experience across both internal tools and customer-facing applications
  • Experience integrating third-party platforms such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Gorgias, or similar tools through APIs and webhooks
  • Active daily use of AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot as part of a real production workflow
Nice to have
  • Experience building AI or ML features in production, including work with embeddings, vector databases, or retrieval systems
  • Background in DTC ecommerce or consumer brands
  • Mobile app development experience, including React Native or similar frameworks
  • Infrastructure and deployment experience across platforms such as Vercel, Shopify Oxygen, and Docker
Interpersonal
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating without detailed specs or heavy oversight
  • Strong communicator who can work effectively across engineering, creative, marketing, and CX
  • Good product judgment and a bias toward shipping
  • Excitement for startups and building a company where your work has immediate, visible impact

Benefits

  • Base salary $130,000-$160,000 based on experience, plus equity
  • Option for fully paid medical, dental, and vision
  • Opportunity to contribute to 401k
  • Flexible PTO plus 11+ paid holidays
  • Free Sans products
  • LA-based hybrid team (3 days/week), office in Culver City
