Principal Product Manager, Comet Planning - East Coast Remote

Cimpress/Vista

Boston, MA โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Posted 6 days ago

Job description

Our Team

Cimpress businesses and their in-house/third-party vendors (fulfillers) manufacture customized products that help our end-customers make an impression. In fulfilling the demand for such customized products, we are not only faced with the fulfillment problems like any other ecommerce company, but also have the challenge of manufacturing and delivering products unique to each customerโ€™s needs, on time and at the lowest possible cost.

Comet Planning is the central engine that translates global demand into production reality. Our mission is to optimize how we utilize machines, labor, and materials across a multi-plant, multi-product network. We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead this critical capability. In this role, you will be accountable for the product vision and execution of our planning product: determining what orders are produced, where they are produced, and in what sequence to ensure high cost-efficiency and on-time delivery.

What You Will Do
  • Define the Planning Vision: Create and own a 2โ€“3 year roadmap for Comet Planning. You will drive how we evolve from plant-specific manual interventions to an autonomous, network-wide optimization engine that handles massive scale and complexity.
  • Cross-Functional Influence & Alignment: As a Principal PM, you will operate at the intersection of Engineering, Program Management, Design, and Physical Operations. You will build consensus among senior plant leaders and global fulfillment executives, translating deep technical constraints into clear, high-impact business outcomes.
  • Bridge Digital Logic and Physical Reality: This is a technical product role. You will translate complex mathematical constraints (labor pools, machine changeovers, batching, and ganging logic) into scalable APIs and intuitive UI workflows (ScheduleCore). You will ensure that our digital "plan" is actually executable on the factory floor.
  • Deliver for Real-World Manufacturing: Youโ€™ll be directly involved in adoption of Comet Planning in major facilities across the Cimpress network. Ensure the planning engine handles diverse constraints like changeovers, labor pools, batching, ganging, and shipping SLAs.
  • Lead a High-Impact Team: Provide mentorship and direction to a small team of product managers, ensuring high-quality execution and strategic alignment.
  • Lead with Data: Design feedback loops to measure how our planning decisions directly impact key manufacturing and shipping metrics.
Your Qualifications

At Cimpress, we are striving to hire individuals that add new ideas and perspectives to our teams and enhance our culture. No matter your background or work experience, we strongly encourage you to applyโ€”even if you feel that you donโ€™t meet the exact requirements or have the same qualifications. You might be a great candidate for this or other opportunities.

  • Experience: 8+ years of product management experience, with a proven track record in manufacturing or complex optimization engines.
  • Technical Depth: A formal education (BS/MS) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related engineering field is highly appreciated. You should be comfortable reasoning about complex systems and optimization algorithms.
  • Problem Solving: You enjoy solving "messy," real-world problems where digital logic meets physical constraints (labor, machines, shipping deadlines).
  • Strategic Mindset: Strong "Build-versus-Buy" DNA and the ability to distinguish between necessary short-term features and long-term platform evolution.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to translate complex technical constraints into clear business value for executive stakeholders and plant partners.
Why You\'ll Love Working Here

We encourage our engineers to think like owners โ€“ to continue to act small as we grow. Every team defines their own roadmaps, and uses the programming languages and technologies that suit them best. This helps us have a big impact at the enterprise level while still feeling small and nimble. We have a Remote-First operating model and culture, with team members in over 15 countries and 30 US states, offering autonomy and the flexibility to work from home. Cimpress also provides collaboration spaces for team members to work physically together.
