What is a remote forensic accountant?

A remote forensic accountant is a financial professional who investigates financial records and transactions to uncover fraud, embezzlement, or other financial misconduct, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They analyze documents, trace assets, and may assist in legal proceedings by preparing reports and testifying as expert witnesses. Remote forensic accountants utilize digital communication tools and secure data-sharing platforms to perform their duties efficiently from anywhere. This arrangement provides flexibility while maintaining the thoroughness and integrity required in forensic accounting investigations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote forensic accountant?

To thrive as a Remote Forensic Accountant, you need strong analytical abilities, a background in accounting or finance (often with a CPA or CFE certification), and a detail-oriented approach to investigating financial records. Proficiency with forensic accounting software, data analysis tools like Excel, and secure virtual communication platforms is typically required. Exceptional critical thinking, integrity, and clear written communication help set outstanding professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate, ethical investigations and effective collaboration with clients, law enforcement, or legal teams—even when working remotely.

How does a remote forensic accountant effectively collaborate with legal teams and clients during investigations?

As a remote forensic accountant, collaboration with legal teams and clients is primarily facilitated through secure digital communication platforms, regular virtual meetings, and detailed reporting. While not physically present, you'll often participate in case briefings, share findings via encrypted channels, and clarify financial evidence in real time. Building strong relationships remotely requires proactive communication, responsiveness to inquiries, and clear documentation of your analyses. This virtual collaboration ensures that all parties stay informed and investigations progress smoothly, even across different time zones.

Job description

Unite America seeks a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations across a complex, multi-entity organization. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across multiple legal entities and supporting timely, decision-useful financial reporting.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving environment with clear ownership of core accounting processes. The successful candidate will manage a high volume of transactions, maintain audit-ready financial records, and help strengthen accounting processes as the organization continues to grow.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience in multi-entity environments who takes ownership of their work from start to finish. They thrive in evolving environments, bring structure where needed, and consistently deliver accurate, reliable results while exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.

Unite America is a cross-partisan organization that strongly encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and from across the political and ideological spectrum to apply. We hope to hire 2 staff accountants to join our team.

Denver-based candidates are strongly preferred, though exceptional remote candidates will also be considered. Relocation support is available for candidates interested in moving to the Denver area. Remote employees should expect to travel at least four times per year for organizational retreats and meetings.

OUR ORGANIZATION

Unite America is  a non-partisan, philanthropic venture fund that invests in candidates, campaigns, and organizations in order to advance nonpartisan election reforms that will foster a more representative and functional government capable of solving America's most pressing challenges.

Founded in 2014, Unite America and its 35+ person team has grown to be a leader in the democracy reform movement. The organization has existed in its current form, and with its current primary focus, since 2019; in that time, we have successfully mobilized tens of millions of dollars from scores of philanthropists to candidates and reform campaigns across the country.

At Unite America, we are working to build a more representative and functional government that puts voters first and reflects the diversity of our country, and an inclusive democracy in which leaders embrace problem-solving over fueling divisiveness. Likewise, we have a vision of building an organization that reflects diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives, a culture of working across differences toward common goals, and a workplace where everyone feels included, respected, and heard. To that end, Unite America is proud to have made diversifying our team, ensuring more equitable opportunity, and fostering a culture of belonging a priority. Our organizational values reinforce this commitment as we work to model the leadership we seek, solve problems together, and take care of one another, to name a few.
