What is a Remote Football Data Scientist?

A Remote Football Data Scientist is a professional who analyzes football (soccer or American football) data to provide insights that help teams, organizations, or media make informed decisions. They use statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to evaluate player performance, predict outcomes, and optimize strategies—all while working remotely. These professionals often collaborate with coaches, scouts, analysts, and other stakeholders by sharing their findings through reports and digital platforms. The role requires strong skills in programming, mathematics, and domain knowledge of football. Working remotely allows them to contribute from anywhere, often using cloud-based tools and virtual collaboration platforms.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote football data scientists, and how can they effectively collaborate with coaching and analytics teams?

Remote football data scientists often face challenges in accessing real-time data, maintaining clear communication across different time zones, and ensuring their analyses align with the needs of coaches and analysts. To overcome these hurdles, it's important to establish regular virtual meetings, use collaborative tools like shared dashboards, and maintain clear documentation of methodologies and findings. Building strong relationships with on-site team members and staying proactive in communication can significantly enhance collaboration and ensure that data-driven insights effectively support team strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Football Data Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Football Data Scientist, you need a solid background in statistics, data analysis, and programming (often in Python or R), typically supported by a relevant degree in data science, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with sports analytics platforms, machine learning frameworks, and database systems like SQL is commonly required, as are certifications in data analysis or analytics. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to collaborate virtually are vital soft skills for success in this remote, data-driven environment. These skills and qualities enable accurate insights, informed decision-making, and seamless teamwork, ultimately driving competitive advantage for football organizations.

Premise's mission is to help people get, stay, and be well. Come join us and see for yourself why amazing health starts with amazing healthcare. For more information, visit www.jobs.premisehealth.com.
As an Analyst on our Data Science team, you'll be an integral part of an innovative group building the analytical foundation behind Premise Health's approach to Population Health; work that continues to scale across the enterprise. In this highly visible, entrepreneurial role, you'll work cross-functionally with stakeholders, partnering with sales, growth, operations, clinical, finance, and more, as well as with strategic vendor partners you'll help manage.
You'll work alongside leaders across the organization with two core aims: 1) developing better ways for our clinical and operational teams to track and report on the performance of Premise's products, and 2) turning large, complex healthcare datasets into insights that identify opportunities to lower cost and improve quality of care, then translating those findings into action that empowers clinical teams and drives greater impact for our member populations. Along the way, you'll produce the analyses and presentations that support conversations with internal and external stakeholders, propose better ways to approach problems, and contribute to a team that's always raising its own bar.
This is a Full Time, remote, Data Science Analyst role.
What You'll Do
Data Analysis & Manipulation:
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns and opportunities in healthcare data
  • Document methodology, assumptions, and results to ensure analyses are reproducible and defensible
  • Design and maintain reporting datasets that support recurring reporting and predictive modeling
  • Write clean, well-structured, and documented code in Python, PySpark, and SQL
  • Use Git for version control and follow structured development practices

Visualization & Reporting:
  • Design and build reports and dashboards using data visualization tools (Power BI preferred)
  • Build presentation-ready decks and visuals that frame data as a clear narrative for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Use Python to manipulate, clean, and analyze large datasets

Storytelling & collaboration:
  • Partner with stakeholders to scope projects, align on goals, and manage expectations
  • Communicate findings and methodologies clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to predictive modeling and machine learning efforts under the guidance of senior team members

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a BI or analytics role focused on manipulating data and presenting it to stakeholders
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and manipulating large datasets
  • Strong data visualization skills, including building dashboards and reports in Power BI
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and common ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, etc.)
  • Healthcare data experience preferred
  • Understanding of statistical methods, predictive modeling, and AI/ML algorithms
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present to and manage stakeholders and clients
  • Exposure to agentic AI concepts and frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, and Git (version control)
  • Experience with the following is a plus: Cloud Azure Databricks, Version Control: GitLab, IDE: VS Code
