What are some common challenges faced by interns in remote fintech internships, and how can they be overcome?

Remote fintech internships often present challenges such as limited real-time communication with mentors, adapting to new technologies, and managing time effectively without in-person supervision. To overcome these, interns should proactively schedule regular check-ins with their supervisors, make use of collaboration tools like Slack or Zoom, and set clear daily goals to stay on track. Staying engaged in virtual team meetings and seeking feedback frequently can also help interns feel connected and supported throughout the internship.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Remote Fintech Internship, and why are they important?

To excel in a Remote Fintech Internship, candidates generally need a strong foundation in finance, mathematics, or computer science, often supported by relevant coursework or ongoing degree programs. Familiarity with fintech platforms, data analysis tools (like Excel, SQL, or Python), and basic understanding of blockchain or digital payments are typically expected. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time-management skills help interns collaborate effectively and meet deadlines in a virtual setting. These skills and qualities enable interns to contribute meaningfully to projects and adapt quickly to the fast-evolving fintech landscape.

What are remote fintech internships?

Remote fintech internships are short-term work experiences in the financial technology sector that can be completed from any location, typically online. These internships allow students or recent graduates to work with fintech companies on projects related to software development, data analysis, financial modeling, or business operations. Interns gain practical industry experience, build technical and analytical skills, and network with professionals—all without needing to relocate or commute. Remote fintech internships are particularly popular for their flexibility and accessibility, opening doors to global opportunities in a rapidly growing industry.

Sales Associate

Great Gray

$70K - $80K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement

Job description

Why Great Gray?
At Great Gray Group, we strive to set the bar for the retirement services industry. Our goal is to deliver advanced retirement solutions that combine our core fiduciary services with robust investment options, innovative technology, and dedicated client service. We focus on making choices clearer, transitions smoother, and the client experience more delightful. Complacency isn't in our vocabulary. Every day, we look for opportunities to better serve our clients, be an excellent business partner, and earn the trust of those who rely on us.

The Role

Great Gray is looking to add a Sales Associate to our Sales team. We are launching a Sales Academy designed for early-career sellers ready to fast-track their career growth. Academy members will start in a cohort with a 4-week intensive training program before moving into rotational selling sprints across 3 distinct sales teams spanning fintech and retirement investment solutions. This includes roles across the SaaS and CIT businesses.  Over the course of 4 to 6 months, you'll develop full-cycle selling skills with a focus on business development and high-velocity selling, before being placed with one of our 3 teams upon successful completion of the program.

This is not a BDR role -- You won't be discovering opportunities only to hand them off to someone else: you will own the sale through close and be compensated for revenue generated. This is a true selling position that compresses what would otherwise be 2+ years of career-building into a single accelerated program.

Location

This position will work from our Boston, MA office. Great Gray currently supports a hybrid work model with 4 days onsite, and 1 day remote. This role requires availability during extended business hours to support clients across U.S. time zones, including early morning and evening coverage. Specific scheduling requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

Visa sponsorship or transfer of an existing visa is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work directly for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Build product knowledge and develop selling expertise across fintech and retirement investment products, with a focus on shorter selling cycles
  • Prospect and develop new business through outbound calls, emails, messaging, and meetings
  • Manage pipeline and sales activity within Salesforce
  • Meet and exceed KPIs including outbound call volume and meetings scheduled
  • Collaborate with team members and sales leadership across lines of business
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Professional Selling, or a related field
  • 1-2 years of sales experience, including at least one sales internship or other hands-on exposure to B2B sales
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Salesforce CRM
  • Strong drive and self-motivation with a competitive, goal-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle rejection and maintain persistence in a fast-paced sales environment
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and take direction from sales leadership and training staff
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset to bring best practice ideas to the team.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Your standards reflect our core values: Growth Mindset, Disciplined Curiosity, Grit, Results Ownership, Collaboration.

Base Pay Range*

$70,000 - 80,000 base salary plus commission

*This base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

The pay range displayed above is the base pay compensation range that Great Gray expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting.  Individual compensation within this range, or that may warrant a provision for pay beyond this range, depends on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, candidate's prior education and relevant work experience and training as well as position location and local market demands.  Our pay-for-performance culture also includes participation in an annual incentive bonus plan for this position which is not included in the 'Base Pay Range' noted above.

Benefits
We have a comprehensive and competitive benefits package at Great Gray. Some of the highlights are:
Be an integral part of a high-growth organization!
         Competitive compensation package
Group medical, dental and vision insurance
         Employer-paid life and disability insurance
         Annual well-being stipend
Eligible employees may also contribute to a 401(k) plan with an advantageous employer contribution model, upholding our mission to support our employees in retirement

Company Background
Great Gray is the leading independent provider of trustee and administrative services to Collective Investment Trusts ("CITs"), with over $370 billion in CIT assets under management, across more than 1,020 funds. We proudly work with more than 80 subadvisors, including leading firms such as AllianceBernstein, American Funds, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, MetLife, Neuberger Berman, PGIM, PIMCO and Raymond James.

CITs are more than just an investment vehicle. They represent a forward-thinking approach to retirement planning. These tax-exempt, pooled investment vehicles are offered to employer-sponsored retirement plans, like 401(k)s. CITs are comparable to mutual funds, but, because they are tailored for the institutional retirement market, they can offer distinct advantages, including efficient administration and cost-effectiveness. CITs have a history dating back over 90 years; but they have gained favor over the past decade, driven by innovations, and Great Gray has been at the forefront.

Great Gray has consistently delivered year-over-year growth at an above market rate and is investing in the continued development of its core CIT business as well as complementary administrative services and technology solutions for the retirement market.

Madison Dearborn Partners ("MDP") purchased Great Gray from Wilmington Trust in April 2023. As a result, Great Gray is an independent company owned by funds affiliated with MDP.

Investor Background
MDP is a leading private equity investment firm based in Chicago. Since MDP's formation in 1992, the firm has raised aggregate capital of over $37 billion and has completed over 160 platform investments across nine flagship funds. MDP invests across five dedicated industry verticals, including financial services, healthcare, technology and government services.

Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
Great Gray Group, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, disability status or other non-merit factor.
