Expected Full-Time Salary: $130,000–$145,000 annually, based on experience and organizational funding.

Overview

RISE Foundation is seeking a strategic and mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the financial health and long-term sustainability of our growing nonprofit organization.

This executive leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced finance professional who is passionate about building organizations from the ground up. During the startup phase, the CFO will provide strategic financial leadership while committing approximately 3–10 hours per week. As the organization grows and funding milestones are achieved, the role is expected to transition into a full-time executive position.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Founder & Chairman of the Board, the Chief Financial Officer serves as the senior executive responsible for financial strategy, budgeting, accounting, compliance, financial reporting, and long-term fiscal planning.

The CFO works closely with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to ensure the organization's financial integrity, transparency, and sustainability while supporting strategic growth and mission-driven impact.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the organization's financial strategy.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Monitor organizational cash flow, financial performance, and sustainability.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, IRS regulations, and applicable federal and state reporting requirements.
  • Oversee accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, banking, and financial controls.
  • Establish internal financial policies and risk management procedures.
  • Support grant budgeting, financial reporting, and donor stewardship.
  • Evaluate financial risks and recommend strategic solutions.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on organizational growth, funding opportunities, and operational planning.
  • Assist in preparing for annual financial reviews or independent audits as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience interpreting financial statements and providing executive-level recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • Experience within nonprofit organizations or public sector finance.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant management, and fund accounting.
  • Experience supporting Board Finance or Audit Committees.

Compensation

During the organization's startup phase, this position requires approximately 3–10 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

As organizational growth and funding milestones are achieved, this role is expected to transition into a full-time executive leadership position with an anticipated salary of $130,000–$145,000 annually, based on qualifications, experience, organizational needs, and Board approval.
