Wise Recovery Counseling Center is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team in a full-time remote capacity. The Mental Health Counselor will primarily work in a remote setting, allowing flexibility and work-life balance. However, the role may include some collaboration within our outpatient office to engage with staff and attend team meetings. • Conduct comprehensive initial assessments by performing preliminary interviews, and documenting client cases meticulously from their first consultation through to the completion of their treatment.
• Evaluate the mental, behavioral, and emotional health of clients using established diagnostic frameworks and tools.
• Devise tailored treatment and recovery plans that address the unique challenges faced by individuals, couples, families, and group settings.
• Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to promote healing and growth.
• Monitor client progress throughout treatment, adjusting intervention strategies as necessary to ensure optimal results.
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including other mental health specialists, physicians, nurses, and social workers, to develop cohesive intervention plans.
• Follow up with psychiatrists and attending physicians regarding clients who may require hospital admission.
• Identify and address potential behaviors that may hinder recovery, providing targeted strategies to help clients stay on track with their treatment goals.
• Support family members and primary caregivers by providing guidance and management strategies for those dealing with mental health challenges.

Our clientele ranges from adolescents to adults dealing with various mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, addiction disorders, and more. As a Mental Health Counselor at Wise Recovery Counseling Center, you will work with diverse populations from the Ellicott City community and beyond, tailoring your approach to meet the specific cultural and situational needs of each client.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
• Active licensure as either an LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
• A passing score in the NCE and/or the NCMHCE is mandatory.

• Previous experience as a mental health counselor is strongly preferred, with substantial experience in direct clinical practice.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems, particularly AVATAR, is beneficial for managing client details efficiently.
• A background in handling complex physical and emotional health conditions, and experience with addiction, will be highly advantageous.
• In-depth knowledge of medication effects prescribed by healthcare providers is a plus.
• Understanding and adherence to the best practices established by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).
• Remarkable communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal abilities, contribute to the success in this role.
