What is remote Fanuc robot programming?

Remote Fanuc Robot Programming involves creating, modifying, and troubleshooting programs for Fanuc industrial robots from a remote location, rather than on-site. This process typically utilizes specialized software to connect to the robot's controller over a network, enabling programmers to update code, monitor robot operation, and provide technical support without being physically present. Remote programming can increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and allow experts to assist with complex automation tasks from anywhere in the world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Fanuc robot programmer?

To thrive as a Remote Fanuc Robot Programmer, you need a solid background in robotics, automation engineering, and experience with Fanuc robot controllers, often supported by a relevant technical degree or certification in robotics or industrial automation. Proficiency with Fanuc software (such as Roboguide), PLC integration, and remote troubleshooting tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills, especially when collaborating with on-site teams from a distance. These skills ensure the efficient setup, maintenance, and optimization of robotic systems, minimizing downtime and supporting seamless remote operations.

What are some common challenges faced when programming Fanuc robots remotely, and how can they be managed?

Remote Fanuc Robot Programming often presents challenges such as limited on-site troubleshooting, network connectivity issues, and communication delays with on-site teams. To manage these, it's important to establish clear protocols for remote access, maintain thorough documentation, and use reliable remote support tools. Close collaboration with on-site operators is essential for testing and implementing changes, and proactive planning can help minimize downtime. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication channels can also ensure that remote programmers stay aligned with the team's goals and safety standards.

What is the difference between Remote Fanuc Robot Programming vs Remote ABB Robot Programming?

AspectRemote Fanuc Robot ProgrammingRemote ABB Robot Programming
CredentialsTypically requires Fanuc certification or equivalentRequires ABB certification or equivalent
Work EnvironmentPrimarily manufacturing and automation facilities using Fanuc robotsSimilar manufacturing settings with ABB robots
Industry UsageWidely used in automotive, electronics, and industrial automationCommon in automotive, packaging, and industrial sectors

Remote Fanuc Robot Programming and Remote ABB Robot Programming share similar skills, certifications, and work environments, focusing on automation in manufacturing. The main difference lies in the robot brands and specific programming software used. Both roles require technical expertise in robot operation, troubleshooting, and programming, but professionals typically specialize in one brand based on employer needs.

How much do remote Fanuc robot programmers make?

Remote Fanuc robot programmers typically earn between $60,000 and $100,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and the complexity of the automation systems they work with. Skilled programmers with advanced knowledge of robot programming languages and troubleshooting can earn higher salaries, especially in industries with high automation demands.

Job description

About the Role

A small, fast-moving defense tech startup in Austin, TX is hiring a hands-on Senior Robotics Engineer to design the physical control systems powering high-speed interceptor platforms. This is an onsite, mission-critical role sitting at the intersection of control theory, embedded software, and real-world robotics — directly impacting system performance against emerging threats. You'll be a core member of a tight-knit engineering team focused on shipping field-ready capability.

What You'll Do
  • Design and implement physical control systems — the "body" — for interceptor platforms.

  • Develop high-bandwidth control loops and advanced control algorithms (e.g., PID, model-predictive, adaptive control) to ensure vehicle stability and precise high-speed maneuvers under dynamic load.

  • Write high-quality, efficient embedded code (primarily Rust, C, or C++) to manage actuators, motor drivers (via CAN bus), and sensors on RTOS.

  • Integrate and fuse camera and IMU data (e.g., EKF/UKF) on embedded platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson for reliable, real-time state estimation.

  • Translate computer-vision tracking output into reliable motor commands that steer the interceptor.

  • Build and maintain Python-based tools for calibration, logging, and CI/CD to support rapid iteration and deployment.

  • Work fully onsite in Austin, TX as a full-time member of a small, senior engineering team.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in robotics, controls, or embedded systems.

  • Strong control theory fundamentals — expertise in PID, model-predictive or adaptive control, and performance tuning for robotics.

  • Proficiency in Rust, C, or C++ for embedded, low-latency hardware interaction.

  • Deep experience with embedded platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson), camera pipelines, IMUs, and sensor fusion techniques (EKF/UKF).

  • Hands-on knowledge of motor drivers, CAN bus, RTOS, and ROS2/DDS or similar middleware.

  • End-to-end autonomy development experience: translating computer vision outputs into reliable motor commands.

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a background check; existing security clearance or ability to obtain one is required.

  • A demonstrated passion for building robots or engineering projects — in or out of work.

Nice to Have

  • PCB design familiarity and EMC awareness; experience with oscilloscopes, logic/CAN analyzers, and basic rework.

  • Prior defense startup or mission-driven product experience.

  • Safety-critical workflow experience.

  • Model-predictive or adaptive control expertise beyond PID.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $150,000 – $250,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience.

  • Equity participation in an early-stage, high-growth defense tech company.

  • Comprehensive benefits package.

Location

This role is fully onsite in Austin, TX. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available. Visa sponsorship is not available — U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
