Job Summary:
The Quality Control Technician ensures that medium voltage (MV) electrical systems and components meet design specifications, safety standards, and quality control requirements during construction and commissioning. This role combines electrical engineering knowledge with quality assurance practices to verify that MV equipment - such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection systems for utility scale solar projects - are installed, tested, and documented correctly.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Organization, flexibility, outstanding focus and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:
• Work in a team environment alongside site Quality Management Team to monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of contractors' work
• Ensure the high-quality installation of electrical portions of project; including underground cabling, mod to mod wiring, combiner box terminations, and DC collection system
• Verify that the quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship conforms to the specifications and updates of the contract documents
• Work with Site Manager and owner's Project Manager in reviews of project schedules and updates.
• Supervise and ensure quality control of work team through daily inspections of the work in progress and maintain very accurate records of these inspections
• Witness and submit inspection documents on benchmarks as required by the contract and the job specifications
• Collaboratively develop site specific inspections and test reports and review contractor inspection and test plans
• Ensure all records required from the Quality Management system are controlled, maintained, and provide
evidence of conformance with project requirements
• Attend and participate in project meetings and provide liaison between engineers and contractors and craft workers to ensure electrical components of the project comply with drawings and specifications.
• Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site: customers and contractors
• Recommend revision to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other changes to increase production or improve standards
• Prepare nonconformance reports to the QA/QC Manager and assist in developing corrective actions
• Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timely
• Ensure owners supplied subcontract crews have resources and support
Skills
The requirements listed below are representative of acquired skills required.
• Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of DC and medium voltage cables
• Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing
• Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry
Competencies
The requirements listed below are competencies required to perform the job successfully.
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in the electrical field (preferred in the renewable field)
• Experience with document storage systems, Bluebeam, Adobe
• Experience with BIM360, Procore, or other project management software a plus
• Able to read drawings and develop/implement inspection templates
• Experience in Solar- Pile, Racking, and Module Installation
• Good written and verbal communication
• Open-minded and positive attitude
• Coach approach, be willing to teach and be taught
• Current driver's license
Education, Certifications, and Experience
Preferred
• High School Diploma minimum
• State Electrical Journeyman or Master License
• Schooling in Construction/Electrical
• OSHA 10/OSHA 30 a plus
