Position Description:

The Scheduling Engineer assists the project team with the creation, monitoring and maintenance of both procurement and project schedules, as well as the updating and maintenance of those schedules and associated monthly narratives. The scheduling engineer will ensure the development and completion of job progress milestones through scheduling, analysis of work breakdown structure, and resource requirements using various methodologies such as time impact analysis, critical path method and earned value management.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering.

  • 5+ years of construction scheduling experience.

  • Familiarity with scheduling software.

  • Proficiency in developing, resource loading, analyzing, and reporting on project schedules.

  • Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), Critical Path Method (CPM), Time Impact Analysis (TIA), and work breakdown structures (WBS) methodologies, principles, and applications.

  • Experience with Federal Project contracts/scheduling.

  • General knowledge of construction means and methods.

  • Can effectively organize the day based around changing priorities and tasks.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Utilize earned value management principles and experience to facilitate development of the project schedule, develop work breakdown structures, evaluate the performance of the project, and analyze budget and/or resource variances from the baseline plan.

  • Engage with trade partners for development of baseline schedule, monthly updates and recovery schedules.

  • Communicate effectively with all field staff members, scheduling consultant and the client to ensure efficient and accurate schedule development and updates.

  • Produce reports required by the contract specifications and project management team.

  • Identify and communicate significant schedule risks to staff and appropriate division personnel. Take necessary actions to mitigate possible risk.

  • Forecast impacts of variances to aid in the management of the schedule and implement controls to avoid claims.

  • Analyze delivery impacts, time extensions, claims, etc. using schedule fragments.

  • Interact with scheduling consultant in schedule reviews, claims analysis, etc. Perform monthly cash flow projections and analysis.

  • Perform workforce projections and analysis.

  • Participate in division training seminars.

  • Train and lead classes and facilitate learning of the scheduling systems amongst the project staff.

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.

  • Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.

  • Constantly reads written communications and views email submissions.

  • The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.

  • Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.

  • Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures

  • Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

This position is eligible for company paid medical insurance, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, long-term disability, 401(K) retirement plan, health savings account (HSA) (HSA not available in Hawaii), and our employee assistance program (EAP). It also is eligible for employee paid enrollment in vision and dental insurance. Hensel Phelps also believes in the importance of taking time to recharge. As a result, salaried employees are eligible for paid time off beginning upon hire. Salaried positions (project engineers and above) participate in an annual bonus plan, subject to company and employee performance. Salaried employees (this is all salaried employees) are also eligible for a company cell phone or cell phone allowance in accordance with company policy. Further, salaried employees (project engineers and above) also receive either a vehicle or vehicle allowance in accordance with Hensel Phelps’ policies. Based on position location, a cost of living adjustment (COLA) may also be included (subject to periodic review and adjustment).
