Job Description

The HR Project Manager leads and coordinates strategic Human Resources projects and initiatives, working approximately 20 hours per week. In this role, you partner closely with HR leadership, HRIS/IT, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities. You serve as a highly organized and collaborative project professional with strong knowledge of HR processes, excellent communication skills, and proven experience managing cross-functional HR initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage HR projects from planning and initiation through implementation and closeout, ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, and quality expectations.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, deliverables, and success measures, and track progress against these plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and maintain clear accountability for project deliverables across HR, HRIS/IT, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR leadership and business stakeholders to define project objectives, requirements, priorities, and expected outcomes.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions, and maintain clear action item tracking and follow-up.
  • Facilitate project meetings, drive effective collaboration, and provide regular status updates and insights to HR leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Support HRIS projects, including system implementations, enhancements, integrations, testing, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing activities, ensuring test plans, documentation, and results are clearly defined and communicated.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including requirements, process flows, training materials, and communication plans.
  • Lead training, communications, and change management activities to support successful adoption of new HR processes and technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen the overall employee experience.
  • Manage relationships with external consultants, vendors, and technology partners, ensuring alignment with project goals and deliverables.
  • Prepare project documentation, presentations, dashboards, and executive-level status reports that clearly communicate progress and outcomes.
  • Ensure all projects remain aligned with HR policies, organizational standards, and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Support additional HR initiatives and special projects as assigned, contributing project management expertise where needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–7 years of experience in HR, HRIS, project management, HR operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects from inception through completion.
  • Strong understanding of HR processes and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, including building relationships and influencing without direct authority.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Experience using project management tools to plan, track, and report on project activities.
  • Foundational knowledge in human resources and project management disciplines.

  • Experience with HRIS platforms such as Workday, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP, or similar systems.

Work Environment

This role operates in a 100% remote work environment, offering flexibility to perform responsibilities from a home office or other suitable remote location. Collaboration occurs virtually with HR, HRIS/IT, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders using standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management platforms. The position is part-time at approximately 20 hours per week, requiring reliable internet connectivity and the ability to participate in online meetings, manage documentation, and coordinate project activities in a fully digital setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
