Job description

Joy & Grace is conducting a confidential executive search for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of a growing, private equity-backed, multi-location operating company. This opportunity is being presented under the Joy & Grace brand while the employer remains undisclosed at the early stage of the process. The position is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and partnering closely with the Board and ownership group.

Opportunity Overview

This is not a traditional controller-style CFO role. The organization is seeking a strategic financial leader who can drive financial performance, improve operational visibility, support growth initiatives, and help build scalable infrastructure for the next stage of the business. The CFO will serve as a hands-on executive partner across finance, operations, and long-range planning.

The company is in a growth phase and is focused on strengthening forecasting, improving decision support, and evaluating acquisition opportunities. The role includes meaningful exposure to executive leadership, board interaction, and enterprise-wide decision-making in a performance-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO, executive leadership team, Board of Directors, and ownership group to develop and execute financial strategy.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, scenario modeling, and KPI development.
  • Oversee core financial functions including accounting, treasury, tax, audit, cash management, reporting, and compliance.
  • Provide timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Improve financial visibility into business performance, labor utilization, operational efficiency, and working capital.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions through financial evaluation, due diligence, modeling, and post-acquisition integration planning.
  • Manage banking, lender, investor, audit, and other external financial relationships.
  • Help optimize capital structure, capital allocation, and liquidity planning.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance organization with a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee financial systems, reporting tools, automation opportunities, and ERP-related enhancements that improve decision-making and scalability.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a business-minded finance executive who combines strategic judgment with operational discipline. This person should be comfortable leading in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and using finance as a driver of enterprise value rather than simply a reporting function.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA and/or CFA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including senior-level leadership responsibility.
  • Strong FP&A, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning experience.
  • Demonstrated M&A and integration experience.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-location operations.
  • Industry background in construction, manufacturing, building products, industrial services, distribution, or similarly labor-intensive environments preferred.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with boards, investors, lenders, and operating leaders.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems, ERP platforms, reporting tools, and Excel.

Leadership Traits

Successful candidates will bring a high level of integrity, curiosity, accountability, and business partnership. The company values leaders who are analytical, improvement-focused, proactive, and comfortable challenging the status quo with data-backed recommendations.

Work Arrangement and Compensation

This role is remote within the United States and includes up to 25% travel for leadership meetings, operational reviews, board interaction, and acquisition-related activity. Compensation includes a competitive base salary generally targeted in the $200,000 to $275,000+ range, plus target bonus opportunity and potential long-term incentive participation.

Confidentiality Statement

Joy & Grace is managing this search on a confidential basis. Company identity and additional details will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process. All inquiries will be handled with discretion and professionalism.

Equal Opportunity

The employer is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity of background, experience, and perspective.
