Job description

Our client is seeking a Low Voltage Switchgear Electrical Design Engineer to support the design, engineering, and implementation of low voltage power distribution and switchgear systems for industrial and commercial applications. This is a remote opportunity open to candidates anywhere in the United States with the ability to travel extensively to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and project locations as needed.
This role is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer with strong technical knowledge of low voltage switchgear systems, power distribution, field support, and customer-facing engineering activities. The position offers long-term potential through a contract-to-permanent structure with benefits available.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low voltage switchgear and electrical power distribution systems
  • Create and review electrical schematics, one-lines, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation
  • Support switchgear configuration, equipment selection, and system integration activities
  • Collaborate with customers, field personnel, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Provide technical support for installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field modifications
  • Review project specifications and ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and industry standards
  • Assist with engineering calculations, load analysis, component sizing, and system design validation
  • Travel to customer sites and project locations throughout the U.S. as required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred
  • Experience designing low voltage switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, or power distribution systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, control panels, breakers, transformers, and protection systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, and technical drawings
  • Experience supporting industrial, commercial, utility, or mission-critical power applications
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50–75% as project demands require
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Revit, or similar electrical design software
  • Knowledge of UL, NEC, IEEE, or NEMA standards
  • Previous experience supporting switchgear manufacturers, EPC firms, OEMs, or power systems integrators
