Job description

Tax Advisory Manager
Remote | Eastern or Central Time Zone | Advisory-Forward Practice | Planning-First
Base Comp to $130K + Bonus + 100% Employer-Paid Benefits

Our client is a boutique tax planning and advisory firm serving small to mid-size business owners who want a proactive, year-round financial partner - not just someone who shows up at the end of the year to file a return.

They are looking for a Tax Manager who leads with strategy, not compliance. If your professional identity is built around finding savings before clients know to ask, this role was built for you.

Why This Role is Different

• Planning is the job, not an add-on. Approximately 80% of this role is proactive tax planning and advisory work. Tax prep exists, but it is oversight on roughly 75 returns per year - not your identity.

• Real client relationships. You will manage 30-40 client relationships with meaningful depth, meeting with clients 8-11 times per year. You are a trusted advisor, not a seasonal vendor.

• No busy season burnout cycle. The firm does not run on a volume model. Workload is steady and intentional. No 80-hour weeks, no weekend sprints, no heroics expected.

• Modern tools and platform. The firm runs on Corvee for tax planning, CCH Axcess for compliance, and CCH Engagement for workpapers.

What You Will Do

• Own a book of 30-40 clients across proactive tax planning, advisory, and business strategy engagements

• Meet with clients 8-11 times per year to review financial position, adjust strategy, and identify planning opportunities before year-end

• Identify and recommend strategies across entity structure, income timing, retirement vehicles, and business tax planning - and defend those recommendations with clarity

• Oversee tax preparation on a portfolio of approximately 75 returns annually, primarily pass-through entities (S Corps, some C Corps, partnerships) and high-net-worth individuals

• Manage and mentor a small team including a tax advisor and a compliance specialist, with direct accountability for quality and delivery

• Respond to IRS notices, manage resolution matters, and coordinate with the firm's tax attorney on complex situations

• Partner with firm leadership on client experience, workflow process, and capacity planning

What You Bring

• EA or CPA required - no exceptions. Client will also consider a JD

• 6-10+ years of tax experience with a meaningful portion in proactive planning or advisory work, not just compliance production

• Strong working knowledge of pass-through entities, multi-entity structures, and high-net-worth individual returns

• A client-facing mindset - you communicate complex strategy in plain language and clients trust you for it

• Comfort with Corvee or comparable tax planning software, CCH Axcess, and CCH Engagement

• Self-directed and accountable - fully remote means you own your calendar, your workflow, and your outcomes

• Available and engaged 9:00am to 6:00pm Eastern - this is a structured remote environment, not a work-whenever model

Preferred: Experience in a boutique or advisory-focused CPA or tax planning firm where proactive client engagement was the standard, not the exception.

Compensation and Setup

Base Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 depending on experience

Benefits: 100% of employee health benefits covered by the firm

Work Setup: Fully remote, Eastern or Central time zone

Schedule: 9:00am - 6:00pm Eastern, Monday through Friday

If you are a planning-first tax professional who is tired of being treated like a compliance machine and ready to work in a firm that was actually built around proactive strategy - reach out. This is the role you have been looking for.
