About the Team & Opportunity

The Classroom Experience team at Clever builds the digital gateway to the classroom. As the Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for our most visible products, including the Clever Portal-the daily starting point for millions of students and teachers. We are hiring a leader to help us expand our reach from the classroom into new frontiers like browser extensions and beyond, including future explorations of resource access outside our core products. How You'll Make an Impact

  • The problem you'll solve: You will lead the team that scales our primary classroom user interfaces, connecting users to their learning applications through interfaces that work for kindergarteners in the classroom, through to administrators in the central office, and ensuring that the experience remains robust, delightful, and lightning-fast.
  • Who you'll partner with: You will be a key strategic partner to Product, Design, and Marketing to define our roadmap, while working alongside other Engineering Managers to drive organizational best practices.
  • What success looks like: Success is a high-performing, inclusive team that delivers reliable, business-critical software, meets 99.98%+ uptime targets, and fosters a culture of continuous mentorship and professional growth.
  • Key projects you'll lead: You will drive the execution of accessible UIs and next-generation APIs that drive expanded, simple, and secure access to learning applications.

What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves)
  • People Leadership: 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a proven ability to build high-impact teams - mentoring and coaching engineers at all levels while holding a consistently high bar.
  • Technical Foundation: 5+ years of software development experience with strong fundamentals in full-stack architecture and system design, along with familiarity with how core authentication concepts extend to device-level login.
  • AI Development Tools: Familiarity with leveraging AI coding tools (such as Claude Code or Cursor) to enhance development workflow, productivity, and code quality.
  • Cultural Alignment: A commitment to understand and prioritize the Clever engineering culture (see our blog post on Defining Clever's Engineering Culture).
  • Operational Excellence: Experience with operational change management and process improvement.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage distributed, remote teams while building alignment across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Inclusive Leadership: A deep commitment to building diverse and inclusive teams where every voice is heard.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)
  • Consumer-Facing Scale: Experience managing teams that build products for millions of concurrent users.
  • High Availability: Experience managing business-critical services with strict uptime requirements (99.98%+).
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with our core technologies, including Go, Node.js, TypeScript, and React, managing services within the AWS Ecosystem, and native device technologies.

  • Flexible PTO and Paid Parental Leave
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage
  • Mental healthcare services
  • Professional development budget
