Technology Systems Specialist

Serving as a senior advisor to the IT Manager, the Technology Systems Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of all Commissioner's Precinct One technology. This role encompasses designing and maintaining business solutions aligned with OCRE strategic goals, involving complex technical tasks related to endpoint management systems, remote support, and hosted resources. Duties include conducting systems analysis, providing high-level technical support, and developing custom programming and scripting solutions. The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, able to analyze business needs and implement effective solutions using APIs, Power Apps, or Power BI dashboards. Additional responsibilities include managing SharePoint, API integrations, cloud databases, business intelligence reports, and front-end Helpdesk support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Automation & Systems Modernization:

  • Design, write, and debug custom PowerShell or Python scripts to automate repetitive system tasks.
  • Develop and maintain Power Automate workflows and PowerApps to modernize departmental business processes.
  • Maintain and update custom-coded applications and provide logical instructions for integrated data processing.

SharePoint & Data Administration:

  • Serve as the primary technical administrator for the departmental SharePoint Online environment, managing site architecture and custom web parts.
  • Develop and execute SQL queries to extract and report data from internal and hosted databases.
  • Manage and integrate data within the Microsoft Dataverse for departmental reporting and Power BI dashboards.

Endpoint & MDM Administration:

  • Administer Unified Endpoint Management (UEM/MDM) platforms for automated device enrollment and profile configuration.
  • Manage remote support tools to diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software incidents for on-site and remote personnel.
  • Coordinate automated software deployments and security patch management for departmental assets.

Helpdesk & Operational Support:

  • Resolve high-tier end-user service tickets including complex desktop, printer, and peripheral hardware issues.
  • Document all troubleshooting steps, repair activities, and final solutions within the IT service delivery system.
  • Provide instructional guidance and training to non-technical staff on new software implementations and digital tools.

Asset & Infrastructure Maintenance:

  • Assist the Senior Admin in monitoring the availability and performance of hosted server environments and web applications.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware and software licenses associated with departmental workflows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Professional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis).

Certifications:

  • Two (2) relevant IT certifications are highly desired, such as Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400), Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300), CompTIA Security+, or Network+.

Experience:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of professional experience in systems administration, technical support, or computer programming.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and debugging functional code and automation scripts, specifically utilizing PowerShell.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including SharePoint Online and integrated cloud environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated business logic and applications using the Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps and PowerAutomate).
  • Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries to manage and report data from internal and hosted databases.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise endpoint management (MDM) architectures and remote support protocols.
  • Experience providing high-tier technical support within an IT service delivery (ticketing) system.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into maintainable technical solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computer programming principles, system logic, and modern application development lifecycles.
  • Skill in designing, writing, and testing custom scripts to automate repetitive administrative tasks and modernize system functionality.
  • Ability to maintain custom-coded applications and develop logical instructions for integrated data processing.
  • Ability to serve as the technical administrator and developer for SharePoint Online, including building custom solutions and site architecture.
  • Skill in administering Unified Endpoint Management (MDM) platforms for automated device enrollment and software deployment.
  • Knowledge of Windows Desktop and Server operating systems and standard network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Ability to perform on-site and remote analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex hardware and software incidents.
  • Skill in operating tools, components, and peripheral accessories to resolve helpdesk tickets (e.g., desktops, printers, and scanners).
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guides.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team to meet departmental operational goals.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and tickets simultaneously while maintaining quality standards in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to provide clear, professional communication and instructional guidance to non-technical staff.

Work Environment:

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
  • Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals, at least 15 lbs. or more.
  • In-district travel is required for the purpose of on-site hardware and software troubleshooting and repair.
