What is a remote electromagnetic engineer?

A Remote Electromagnetic Engineer is a professional who specializes in the study, design, and application of electromagnetic systems and components, such as antennas, sensors, and communication devices, while working remotely. These engineers use computational tools and simulations to analyze electromagnetic fields, ensure regulatory compliance, and solve technical challenges related to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC). They often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams via digital platforms to develop solutions for industries like telecommunications, aerospace, automotive, and electronics. The remote aspect means they can perform their duties from outside a traditional office or laboratory setting, leveraging online communication and design tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote electromagnetic engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Electromagnetic Engineer, you need a strong background in electromagnetic theory, antenna design, and signal analysis, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with simulation tools like CST Studio Suite, HFSS, and MATLAB, as well as relevant certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams. These capabilities are important to ensure accurate design, efficient troubleshooting, and seamless project delivery in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote electromagnetic engineers, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Electromagnetic Engineers often encounter challenges related to limited hands-on access to physical testing environments and specialized lab equipment. To overcome this, they frequently rely on advanced simulation software, detailed documentation, and close collaboration with on-site teams through video calls or remote desktop tools. Building strong communication skills and proactively scheduling check-ins with colleagues ensures project alignment. Additionally, staying organized and adaptable helps manage time zone differences and project deadlines effectively.

The Job

We are looking for technology-driven and detail-oriented engineer to join our growing organization. This person will join our team of inside sales specialists and application engineers.

This position is a presales application engineering role focused on industrial flow and level measurement solutions. It is not a field service or project execution position.

The engineer will work with a broad range of flow and level instrumentation products, including electromagnetic (mag) flow meters, ultrasonic flow meters, Coriolis mass flow meters, thermal and variable area flow meters, flow switches, radar level transmitters, ultrasonic level transmitters, guided wave radar, point level switches, and related monitoring and control technologies. These products are used throughout industrial, municipal, OEM, and process manufacturing applications to measure, monitor, and control liquids, gases, slurries, and bulk solids.

The Application Engineer serves as a technical resource to support sales functions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Providing application assessment, solution recommendations, quotations, and supporting technical documentation

Developing quotes and proposals for large and complex projects (this represents the majority of the role's time and focus)

Supporting customers by answering technical questions and providing engineering specifications and submittals

Evaluating customer requirements and recommending appropriate flow and level measurement technologies based on process conditions, performance requirements, and installation considerations

Creating proof-of-concepts and integrated solution concepts when needed

Collaborating with sales teams, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to ensure technical and commercial alignment

Taking ownership of product information within Branom's internal systems and external eCommerce platform

Staying current on product lines, system architectures, and manufacturer training

Performing other related duties as assigned on an as-needed basis

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills, and capabilities to perform the essential duties of the role:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience (typically five or more years)

Background in industrial instrumentation, process measurement, fluid handling, or process control systems is strongly preferred

Ability to understand and evaluate process applications involving flow measurement, level measurement, pumping systems, tanks, pipelines, and process equipment

Experience providing presales technical support or applications engineering support

Strong computer literacy with the ability to spend most of the workday on a computer

Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel or Google Sheets; ability to learn new systems is required

High attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy, and meeting deadlines

Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills

Well organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Work Environment

This role is largely desk and computer-based, with extended periods of sitting and independent work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

The position may be hybrid, working from a Branom office and a home office, or fully remote.

Regular travel up to 20% for customer meetings, presentations, and training.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range is $90,000-$120,000 base plus bonus, depending on experience and skill set.

Branom offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, paid holidays, and additional benefits.
