Job description

Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I) is looking to add an Electrical Substation Engineer to join our growing Engineering Substation team!

Who is Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I)?

WE & I, an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV.

Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, WE & I currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

As an Electrical Substation Engineer, you will represent our client(s) specific to substation design working on projects ranging from 12kV-500kV and operate as an Owner's Engineer supporting with QA/QC tasks for the client(s).

While this position can be remote the hired team member is intended to reside in the state of New Jersey. For the right candidate, we may have flexibility to New York or Pennsylvania.

As an Electrical Substation Engineer, You May:

  • Create and modify protection and control design drawings including, but not limited to one-lines, three-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, communication drawings, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Create and modify physical drawings including plan and section views, yard layouts, bill of material lists, grounding drawings, etc.
  • Perform calculations such as battery sizing, AC loading, voltage drop, conduit fill, lightning protection, lighting design, and ground grid studies.
  • Perform reviews of Substation Engineers an Designers work to ensure they meet code, customer requirements, and good engineering practices.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as project management and civil engineering teams.
  • Interface with client’s engineering groups and project management team to provide regular and timely updates.
  • Review manufacturer drawings.
  • Incorporate red line drawings from the field to as-builts.
  • Update design leads or project managers on project status as needed.
  • Perform site visits when necessary.
  • Additional tasks as dictated by project necessity.

What We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 5+ years of experience as a Substation Engineer
  • EIT Certification with the intention to pursue PE license (PE preferred)

Travel:

  • 10-20% travel will be required.

Pay Scale and Benefits:

  • Salary: $85,000 - $130,000*
  • Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and 401(k) contributions.
