This individual will support the design and development of electrical systems for K-12 and commercial projects, ensuring compliance with client needs and industry standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills and collaborative capabilities. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, managing project timelines, and mentoring junior engineers. This position also requires the individual be a resident in the State of Michigan with the ability to travel throughout the state to client sites and to meet project and team needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

  • Assist in the design of electrical power, lighting, life safety and security systems for commercial and K-12 educational.
  • Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams and assist with specifications.
  • Work with Electrical Engineer(s) to ensure designs comply with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.


Project Management:

  • Support engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • Assist with coordination between architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate on project timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical guidance in the selection of electrical power and lighting systems, life safety systems and security systems, and components.
  • Conduct detailed site inspections and assessments to ensure design of feasibility and compliance.
  • Perform load calculations, lighting calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash hazard, and other engineering calculations as needed.
  • Assist in Specifying Lighting Controls and Luminaire selections. Ensuring lighting designs meet current standards and the clients needs.
  • Assist in Specifying and sizing standby power systems.
  • Assist in Specifying auxiliary systems, including fire alarm systems and access control.
  • Integrating with CCTVand other low voltage systems design consultants.

Quality Assurance:

  • Support review of quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs.
  • Address and help resolve any technical issues that arise during construction.

Client Interaction:

  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements and provide assistance with technical solutions.
  • Support the preparation of reports and technical documentation.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective communication and project completeness.

Other:

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Specific Direction: Follows established work procedures. Receives periodic checks for performance. Refers unique questions/conditions to immediate supervisor.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with prior K-12 design experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully producing and delivering complex projects on time.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, design ability, and technical proficiency

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in electrical design software and lighting design calculation software; required.
  • Proficient in Revit; required.
  • understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam; required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; with attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20-30% of time throughout the State of Michigan to client/project sites as needed.
