Remote Electrical Engineer Robotics information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Electrical Engineer in Robotics, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Electrical Engineer in Robotics, you need expertise in circuit design, embedded systems, and robotics engineering, usually supported by a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, PCB design tools (like Altium or Eagle), programming languages (such as C/C++ or Python), and industry-standard certifications (like Professional Engineer licensure) is commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and driving innovation. These skills ensure efficient design, troubleshooting, and integration of robotic systems while enabling productive teamwork across distributed teams.

How do Remote Electrical Engineers in Robotics typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while working off-site?

Remote Electrical Engineers in Robotics often collaborate with software developers, mechanical engineers, and project managers using digital tools like CAD platforms, version control systems, and video conferencing. Regular virtual meetings, shared documentation, and cloud-based project management ensure alignment on design specifications and integration challenges. While remote work provides flexibility, it requires strong communication skills and proactive updates to keep complex projects on track. Building relationships with cross-functional teams is key to overcoming challenges such as time zone differences and remote troubleshooting.

What is the difference between Remote Electrical Engineer Robotics vs Remote Electrical Engineer Automation?

AspectRemote Electrical Engineer RoboticsRemote Electrical Engineer Automation

About Switch

At Switch, we donโ€™t just design, build and operate data centersโ€”we are enabling the technology of the future. Led by Founder & CEO, Rob Roy, we believe in revolutionary innovation, operational excellence and the principle of karma. Switch is where talented people come together to EVOLVE the digital world.

We believe that innovation isnโ€™t just about technologyโ€”itโ€™s about the people, culture, and purpose that make it happen. Every Switch team member contributes to a mission greater than themselves: to create the worldโ€™s most advanced digital infrastructure that powers the progress of humanity.

The Role: Field Engineer II

As a Field Engineer II, you will support the lifecycle of data center infrastructure projects, including design review, construction, commissioning, and ongoing operations. This role exists to help ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with Switch operational standards.

You will work closely with engineering, operations, construction, and commissioning teams while supporting upgrades, troubleshooting activities, and infrastructure improvements across Switch facilities.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Review construction documents, engineering designs, and equipment submittals for infrastructure projects

  • Support upgrades, fit-outs, and infrastructure improvements across data center environments

  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and system failures and contribute to root cause analysis efforts

  • Support development and execution of operating procedures for critical facility systems

  • Validate engineering designs against Switch standards and industry practices

  • Partner with Operations, Construction, Commissioning, Safety, and Design Engineering teams to support project execution

  • Participate in engineering site audits and document findings, risks, and corrective actions

  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and vendors on assigned project scopes

  • Use engineering tools and operational data to evaluate system performance and support technical decisions

  • Support commissioning and turnover activities for new construction and infrastructure projects

  • Manage work across multiple projects and geographic regions

  • Participate in after-hours support or on-call rotation during critical events as needed

  • Work safely in active data center environments while observing equipment and field conditions directly

What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • You communicate clearly and document technical information accurately

  • You maintain attention to detail and follow through on assigned work

  • You approach troubleshooting with a practical and analytical mindset

  • You work independently on routine tasks while escalating higher-risk issues appropriately

  • You collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, construction, and client-facing teams

  • You operate reliably in mission-critical environments

  • You are motivated to build technical depth across electrical and mechanical systems

  • You prioritize safety and follow operational procedures consistently

  • You support team success through collaboration and accountability

What Youโ€™ll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • Typically 3โ€“5 years of experience supporting industrial, commercial, or mission-critical engineering environments

  • Experience with data centers, manufacturing, power generation, oil and gas, or similar infrastructure environments

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals

  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems including:

    • Power distribution

    • Generators

    • UPS systems

    • Cooling systems

    • Pumps

    • CRAHs and related equipment

  • Experience using engineering software or tools for analysis and calculations

  • Familiarity with EPMS, SCADA, or BMS platforms

  • Understanding of redundant infrastructure systems used in mission-critical facilities

  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, or infrastructure upgrade projects

  • Knowledge of applicable engineering standards and building codes

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or progress toward licensure

  • Advanced degree or technical certifications

  • Experience supporting design-build project environments
