About The Role
Summit Underground Solutions, a United Utility Services Company, is seeking an experienced and proactive Traveling Safety Representative- HDD / Open Cut Pipeline to oversee and uphold safety compliance on pipeline construction projects. We are looking for a highly motivated Traveling Site Safety Representative to join our team. This position provides field safety leadership for HDD, open-cut pipeline, and underground utility construction projects across the United States. The Safety Representative partners with operations to proactively identify hazards, coach employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a strong culture of safety while protecting employees, equipment, the public, and the environment.
Summit Underground Solutions is an underground utilities company headquartered in The Woodlands, TX. We specialize in maxi-rig directional drilling, water, sewer, gas, fiber, and power.
Key Responsibilities
o Monitor daily HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) and open cut pipeline activities for safety compliance
o Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
o Ensure OSHA and company safety standards are met across all crews and subcontractors
โ€ข Be a supportive resource to educate, train, and coach teammates on health and safety related issues
o Work closely with leadership to maintain safety integration with operations
o Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning sessions
o Lead incident investigations in collaboration with operations to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure timely reporting.
o Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safe work practices
o Perform inspections of company vehicles and equipment to verify required safety equipment is present, operational, and properly maintained
o Coordinate emergency response procedures and drills
o Maintain accurate safety documentation and records
o Oversee safety performance during high-risk activities and provide field leadership during critical operations
o Identify and mitigate hazardous working conditions through collaboration with field supervision
o Clarify safety rules and provide technical expertise and solutions to safety challenges on-site
o Serve as the primary point of contact for all on-site safety concerns
Key Qualifications
o Minimum 3-5 years of safety experience in pipeline construction, HDD, or open cut operations
o Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and PHMSA pipeline safety standards
o Required: Demonstrated knowledge of trenching and trench shoring systems and safety practices
o Experience conducting trenching, excavation, and confined space incident investigations
o OSHA 500 or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
o Excellent communication and leadership skills
โ€ข Preferred certifications include OSHA 30 Construction, First Aid/CPR Instructor, HAZWOPER, CHST, ASP, or CSP
โ€ข Maintain a current, valid driver's license in your state of residence.
โ€ข Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to: standing or walking for long periods of time, occasionally on uneven terrain, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and ladders, and/or lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds.
o Must be willing to travel extensively throughout the United States, including overnight travel and extended assignments lasting several weeks.
