What is remote editing?

Remote editing is the process of reviewing, proofreading, and revising written content from a location outside of a traditional office, usually performed online. Remote editors work with various types of documents—such as articles, books, academic papers, and marketing materials—ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency. This role often involves collaborating with writers and clients via email, cloud-based platforms, or specialized editing software. Remote editors must have strong language skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage their time independently.

What are some common challenges remote editors face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote editors often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with writers and other team members, managing time across different time zones, and ensuring consistent editorial standards without in-person oversight. To overcome these, it's important to establish regular check-ins, use collaborative editing tools, and set clear expectations for turnaround times and feedback. Staying organized and proactive in communication can help ensure projects stay on track and editorial quality remains high.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Editor, you need excellent language proficiency, strong attention to detail, and a background in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides like APA or Chicago Manual of Style is typically required. Outstanding time management, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and meeting deadlines. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent editing work and effective teamwork, even in a virtual environment.

Job description

About Juice Jerky
We're a San Diego-based fruit leather brand sold at farmers markets, in stores and online at juicejerky.com. Our product is chewy like jerky, made with real fruit, no added sugar, no dyes, no gelatin. We've built a growing TikTok and Instagram presence with multiple viral videos including a 3.4M view post and we're ready to take our content to the next level.
The Role
We're looking for a part-time Content Assistant to help us capture and produce short-form social media content. This is a hands-on, creative role that combines live market coverage with post-production video clipping.
What you'll do
At the farmers market (Sundays, in the morning up to 4 hours)
Monitor our market camera feed and log timestamps
Keep a running notes doc so nothing gets missed during busy periods
Occasionally capture supplemental footage on a phone for close-ups or behind-the-scenes moments
After the market (~34 hours, flexible/remote):
Review raw footage using your timestamp notes
Clip 68 short-form videos (1560 seconds) ready for TikTok and Instagram Reels
Deliver an organized folder of clips each week for final review and posting
What we're looking for
You use TikTok and Instagram Reels personally and genuinely enjoy short-form video content
You have a strong instinct for what stops a scroll you just know a good moment when you see one
Basic video editing skills (youre already using CapCut, InShot, or similar nothing fancy required)
Reliable, organized, and able to work independently after market days
Bonus: experience with TikTok Shop, content creation for a brand, or a background in marketing or film
Schedule & Pay
Sundays at the farmers market + a few hours of remote editing during the week
Approximately 910 hours per week
$20/hour
Why this role is great
You'll get real hands-on experience growing a consumer brand's social media presence from the inside. You'll see directly how content strategy translates to sales. And you'll spend your Sundays at a San Diego farmers market.
To apply
Send a short message telling us why you'd be great at this role, plus any social media accounts or content you've created (personal or professional). Apply here or DM us on TikTok or Instagram @juicejerky.

Flexible work from home options available.
