What is remote ecommerce fulfillment?

Remote ecommerce fulfillment refers to the process of managing and shipping online orders from a location that is not tied to a traditional warehouse or physical storefront. This often involves coordinating inventory, packaging, and shipping logistics through digital platforms and working with third-party fulfillment centers or dropshipping partners. People in remote ecommerce fulfillment roles typically use cloud-based software to track orders, manage stock, and ensure timely delivery to customers. This type of work allows businesses and employees to operate from virtually anywhere, increasing flexibility and scalability. Remote fulfillment is essential for ecommerce companies looking to efficiently serve customers without the need for a centralized physical presence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote ecommerce fulfillment?

To excel in Remote Ecommerce Fulfillment, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience with order processing—often supported by familiarity with fulfillment operations or logistics. Proficiency with inventory management systems, order tracking software, and platforms like Shopify or Amazon Seller Central is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help you coordinate with teams and resolve customer issues efficiently. These skills ensure timely, accurate order fulfillment and high customer satisfaction in a fast-paced, remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote ecommerce fulfillment role and how can they be managed?

One of the primary challenges in remote ecommerce fulfillment is maintaining clear and timely communication with warehouse teams and shipping partners, as you are coordinating logistics from a distance. To manage this, it's essential to use robust tracking software, maintain regular check-ins, and establish clear protocols for issue escalation. Additionally, adapting quickly to fluctuating order volumes and customer demands requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Staying proactive and leveraging digital collaboration tools can greatly help ensure smooth fulfillment operations.

What is the difference between Remote Ecommerce Fulfillment vs Remote Warehouse Associate?

AspectRemote Ecommerce FulfillmentRemote Warehouse Associate
CredentialsBasic warehouse or logistics experience, familiarity with e-commerce platformsWarehouse safety training, inventory management skills
Work EnvironmentRemote coordination, online communication, and logistics planningRemote monitoring of warehouse tasks, inventory checks

Remote Ecommerce Fulfillment involves coordinating and managing order processing and logistics remotely, often focusing on customer service and platform integration. Remote Warehouse Associates typically perform inventory handling and packing tasks remotely, supporting warehouse operations. While both roles support e-commerce logistics, fulfillment roles emphasize coordination and communication, whereas warehouse associate roles focus on physical inventory tasks performed remotely.

Job description

E-Commerce Manager

Location: Corporate Office / Remote
Department: Marketing & E-Commerce

Make an Impact Where Hospitality Meets Digital

Are you passionate about digital marketing, e-commerce, and creating experiences that turn online interest into real business results?

Shaner Hotels is looking for an E-Commerce Manager to help shape the digital presence and online revenue performance of our diverse portfolio of hotels. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, data-driven digital marketer who enjoys combining creativity, analytics, technology, and hospitality to drive results.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to influence how our hotels are discovered, considered, and booked online. You'll work across a portfolio of properties and collaborate with Corporate Marketing, Revenue Management, Sales, Distribution, hotel leadership, and major hospitality brands including Marriott, Hilton, IHG, and independent hotels.

If you're someone who sees an underperforming website, digital campaign, or distribution channel and immediately starts thinking about how to make it better, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Drive E-Commerce Performance

  • Develop and execute e-commerce strategies designed to increase direct bookings, online revenue, profitability, and overall digital performance.
  • Analyze hotel and market performance to identify opportunities, solve challenges, and recommend strategies that drive measurable results.
  • Partner with Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing, Distribution, and hotel leaders to align digital strategies with business objectives.

Elevate Our Digital Presence

  • Manage and optimize hotel websites to ensure they are engaging, easy to navigate, conversion-focused, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Lead regular website and digital presence audits, identifying opportunities to improve content, photography, offers, SEO, user experience, and conversion.
  • Develop and optimize digital content that connects with target audiences and encourages them to book.

Maximize Online Distribution

  • Oversee hotel presence across brand websites, OTAs, metasearch, and other approved online distribution channels.
  • Ensure property content, photography, descriptions, amenities, ratings, reviews, and offers are accurate, compelling, and competitive.
  • Work with hotel and Revenue Management teams to optimize channel strategies, promotions, packages, and online merchandising.

Turn Data Into Action

  • Monitor website traffic, conversion, revenue, channel contribution, campaign performance, and other key e-commerce metrics.
  • Create meaningful reporting and translate data into clear recommendations for Corporate and hotel leadership.
  • Test new ideas, evaluate results, and continually refine strategies to improve ROI and online revenue.

Lead Digital Marketing Initiatives

  • Coordinate digital marketing efforts including SEO, paid search/PPC, email marketing, online advertising, affiliate marketing, and other emerging digital opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, agencies, vendors, and brand partners to develop effective campaigns and compelling creative.
  • Stay ahead of emerging digital trends, technologies, and hospitality e-commerce opportunities.

Be a Digital Partner to Our Hotels

  • Build trusted relationships with General Managers, Revenue Managers, Directors of Sales, and hotel marketing teams.
  • Provide guidance, training, and best practices that help hotel teams understand and maximize their digital opportunities.
  • Serve as a key e-commerce liaison with our hotel brand partners and corporate stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

You're curious, analytical, creative, and results-oriented. You understand that great e-commerce is about more than maintaining websites and listings-it's about understanding the customer, using data to make smart decisions, and continuously finding ways to improve the path from search to booking.

Ideally, you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Business, Digital Marketing, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in e-commerce, digital marketing, hospitality marketing, hotel distribution, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, paid search, website optimization, digital marketing, and online distribution.
  • Experience using analytics and reporting to measure performance and make business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, writing, organization, and project management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with both corporate and property-level teams.
  • A strong eye for detail and a passion for delivering high-quality work.
  • A collaborative mindset and the confidence to make recommendations, challenge the status quo, and take initiative.

Even better if you have: hotel e-commerce experience, experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, or other major hotel brands, and familiarity with GA4, Google Ads, SEO platforms, CMS systems, OTAs, metasearch, CRS/GDS, or hotel distribution systems.

Why Shaner?

At Shaner, you won't be managing just one website or one brand. You'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of hotels and brands, giving you the chance to solve different challenges, experiment with new ideas, and see the direct impact of your work.

You'll collaborate with talented hospitality professionals across Marketing, Revenue Management, Sales, Distribution, and Operations-and your ideas can directly influence how guests discover and choose our hotels.

If you're ready to bring together digital strategy, creativity, analytics, and hospitality to make a measurable impact, we'd love to meet you.

Other job-related duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Travel may be required as business needs dictate.
