What are remote disability services?

Remote disability services refer to support and assistance provided to individuals with disabilities through virtual or online platforms, rather than in-person interactions. These services can include counseling, accessibility support, educational accommodations, job coaching, and assistive technology training, all delivered via phone, video calls, email, or specialized software. Remote disability services aim to ensure that people with disabilities have equitable access to resources and opportunities, regardless of their location. They have become increasingly important as technology advances and as more people work or study from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote disability services?

To thrive in Remote Disability Services, you need a background in social work, counseling, or special education, along with knowledge of disability law and accessibility standards. Familiarity with case management software, telehealth platforms, and adaptive technologies is typically required. Strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving abilities are essential soft skills for effectively supporting clients remotely. These skills ensure the delivery of accessible, client-centered services that empower individuals with disabilities and uphold compliance with legal guidelines.

How do professionals in remote disability services typically collaborate with clients and colleagues to ensure effective support?

In Remote Disability Services, professionals often use a combination of video calls, phone consultations, and secure digital platforms to communicate with clients and coordinate with colleagues. Regular team meetings, shared case notes, and collaborative planning help ensure that support is consistent and tailored to each individual's needs. While working remotely poses challenges such as building rapport and maintaining clear communication, many organizations provide training and technology to facilitate strong virtual connections. Effective collaboration is essential for delivering comprehensive and responsive services, even when team members and clients are not physically together.

As an LMFT, you will provide vital therapeutic services that enhance emotional and behavioral outcomes among youth with developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges.

About the Organization

Healthy Mind and Wellness Counseling Clinic is committed to offering Comprehensive Youth and Family Support Services to caregivers of children and teens facing developmental and intellectual disabilities. With a focus on fostering resilience and empowering families, our organization plays a crucial role in establishing inclusive and supportive environments that facilitate personal growth and healing.

Our work culture is built on collaboration, respect, and continuous learning. As part of a community health clinic, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team consisting of behavioral therapists, social workers, and medical professionals, to provide holistic care. The remote work arrangement provides an excellent opportunity for work-life balance, allowing you to conduct sessions and participate in professional development from the comfort of your home while also visiting clients in their home settings when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individualized therapy sessions in the client's home or through virtual platforms, adapting your approach to meet each childโ€™s unique needs.
  • Implement therapeutic techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and behavior modification strategies that address anger management, coping mechanisms, and social skills development.
  • Support caregivers in enhancing their decision-making skills, providing them with tools and strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviors at home.
  • Actively collaborate with the Child Family Treatment Team, attending multidisciplinary meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical activities, including intake assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings, contributing your expertise and providing recommendations for program improvement.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This position focuses on a diverse population of children aged 3-20 who are impacted by developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges. Your role is pivotal in addressing their emotional and behavioral needs through targeted interventions. By working closely with families, you will help build stronger support systems and foster independence in young individuals facing these challenges.

Qualifications
  • A Masterโ€™s degree in Counseling, Family Therapy, or a closely related field is required.
  • Possession of a current and unrestricted LMFT license is mandatory.
  • Ability to provide your services with a minimum availability of 5-10 hours weekly during the after-school hours of 4-7 PM, with some weekend availability being advantageous.
  • Experience in delivering positive behavior support techniques is essential.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a registered vehicle for home visits are required.
  • A criminal background check, including fingerprinting, is a prerequisite for employment.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience with children and teenagers, particularly those with intellectual/developmental disabilities, is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with community resources and referral procedures related to disability services.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus, expanding our clinicโ€™s ability to serve diverse client needs.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, our organization offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • A dynamic work environment focused on innovation and client-centered care.
  • Comprehensive group health coverage for you and your family.
  • Annual Paid Time Off to ensure work-life balance and personal wellbeing.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching to support your financial future.
  • Continuous professional development and ongoing job training opportunities designed to enhance your skills and career trajectory.
Career Growth Opportunities

At Healthy Mind and Wellness Counseling Clinic, we prioritize your professional development. You will have opportunities to attend workshops, training sessions, and relevant conferences to keep your skills sharp and stay updated on best practices in therapy. With a focus on team collaboration, you will also engage in peer supervision and mentorship to enhance your clinical acumen and expand your professional network.
