Job description

Overview

The Director, Planning & Strategic Sourcing is responsible for leading the procurement, planning, and category sourcing strategies for key materials, equipment, and services that are essential to renewable energy construction projects. This position is responsible for optimizing supplier partnerships, reducing costs, managing risks, and ensuring the supply chain supports Mastec Renewables’ sustainability and growth objectives. The Director-Planning and Strategic Sourcing will also be vital for leading the management of project material needs and schedule with project operations and other relative departments. This position will anticipate market capabilities, understand company goals and execute long-term negotiations to help the organization achieve pricing advantages. This position requires a strong understanding of global sourcing, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance.

Location and Travel Details: This is a remote position, which can be based anywhere in the U.S. This position supports our business across the United States. This position will have up to 50% travel.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement long-term sourcing strategies that align with company goals
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers to mitigate risks, reduce costs, and improve supply chain efficiency
  • Identify and evaluate domestic and international suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and supply chain resilience
  • Optimize procurement processes to enhance value creation, cost reduction, and risk management
  • Stay informed on market trends, tariffs, and trade regulations to adjust sourcing strategies proactively
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership at key suppliers, ensuring service level agreements and performance benchmarks are met
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and terms to secure the best value for the company
  • Work collaboratively with management to coordinate supplier selection, credit and terms, track supplier performance standards, and conduct ongoing evaluation
  • Develop supplier diversification strategies to reduce dependency on single sources and high-risk regions
  • Implement cost saving initiatives through value engineering, supplier consolidation, and alternative sourcing through total cost of ownership (TCO)
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate risks related to tariffs, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical factors
  • Drive early identification and risk mitigation strategies to address supply chain disruptions, material shortages, and price volatility on long lead equipment and high-risk materials
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams to forecast and manage procurement budgets effectively
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (estimating, engineering, and operations) to align sourcing strategies with business needs
  • Oversee the collaboration with Project Managers, Pre-construction, Scheduling, and Procurement teams to align project construction needs and material purchasing and delivery schedules
  • Ensure project material needs and schedule are managed effectively from project aware through completion of project
  • Facilitate timely resolution of issues with suppliers related to price, quality, delivery, condition, etc. to management
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology and data analytics for decision making
  • Lead a team of Category Managers & Buyers and Procurement Planners, providing mentorship, training, and performance management
  • Develop succession planning for the organization for continued retention and professional development
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, procurement, construction management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of procurement and strategic sourcing experience, with at least 5 years in a management and leadership role
  • 5+ years of Energy industry experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to influence and lead employees, internal partners, and external vendors
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
  • Ability to think strategically and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Company’s offerings (solutions, products, and services)
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, or other continuous improvement strategies
  • Excellent collaboration and written/verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and system databases
  • Knowledge of best practice and benchmarking function to industry norms
  • Excellent knowledge of contract negotiation, administration, and procurement practices
  • Excellent knowledge of purchasing, goods deliveries, and demand planning practice
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization, client, subcontractors and suppliers to provide information necessary to obtain and complete a project
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
