What is remote digital cinematography?

Remote digital cinematography involves capturing high-quality video footage using digital cameras, where the camera operation and direction are managed remotely, often via internet-connected systems. This enables cinematographers to control camera angles, focus, and settings from a distance, making it ideal for projects where on-site presence is limited, such as during live events, hazardous locations, or productions with travel restrictions. Remote digital cinematography leverages modern technology to maintain creative control and quality, while offering flexibility and safety advantages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Digital Cinematographer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Digital Cinematographer, you need proficiency in visual storytelling, camera operation, lighting techniques, and a strong understanding of digital imaging, often supported by a relevant degree or significant portfolio. Expertise with digital cameras (such as RED or ARRI), remote shooting software, and editing platforms like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve is typically required. Creative vision, strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with remote teams and respond to on-the-fly challenges. These skills ensure high-quality cinematic results and efficient workflows in remote production environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Digital Cinematographers and how can they be overcome?

Remote Digital Cinematographers often face challenges such as coordinating with on-site crews, managing lighting and camera settings from a distance, and ensuring consistent visual quality. Effective communication using video conferencing tools, detailed pre-production planning, and leveraging remote camera control technology help address these issues. Building strong relationships with local teams and staying adaptable are key to achieving the director’s vision, even when working remotely.

About the Role

We are seeking a mid-level Production Artist (Video, Motion & Content Creation) to support a growing performance creative team focused on high-impact, short-form digital advertising across Auto Insurance, Final Expense, Medicare, and emerging verticals.

This is a contract-to-hire position based in the Las Vegas or Phoenix area. The role is primarily remote but requires in-person availability for scheduled shoot days and controlled production sessions.

You will work directly with the Creative Director to execute a multi-format creative system that blends:

  • Real-world UGC-style content

  • Structured scenarios

  • AI-enhanced visuals

  • Motion graphics overlays

In addition to editing and motion graphics, this role will also support content creation and production, helping capture and assemble real-world footage used in paid media campaigns.

  • Work efficiently within tight feedback loops

  • Assist with staging and capturing real-world scenarios used in advertising concepts

  • Work with the Creative Director to translate concepts into shootable content

  • Help identify visual opportunities that enhance storytelling and engagement

  • Apply a strong understanding of what makes short-form content engaging across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube

Light Production & Shooting

  • Capture in-person footage on scheduled shoot days

  • Operate iPhone or mirrorless camera setups

  • Set up basic lighting and audio

  • Frame and direct talent under Creative Director guidance

This role does not require full cinematography-level expertise but does require confidence running a small, efficient production setup.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–6 years of professional experience in video editing, motion graphics, or content production

  • Strong proficiency in:

    • Adobe Premiere Pro

    • After Effects

    • Photoshop

    • Illustrator

  • Experience editing short-form paid social or performance-driven content

  • Experience creating or capturing short-form digital content

  • Understanding of pacing, hooks, and retention optimization

  • Comfortable managing multiple creative versions simultaneously

  • Ability to take direction and execute quickly

  • Located in the Las Vegas, NV or Phoenix, AZ area

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI creative tools:

    • Text-to-image

    • Image-to-video

    • Text-to-video workflows

  • Proven track record creating short-form content that generates strong organic engagement (examples of videos with significant views, shares, or engagement are a plus)

  • Familiarity with:

    • CapCut

    • DaVinci Resolve

    • Final Cut Pro

    • Cinema 4D

    • Blender

  • Experience working with UGC-style content

  • Basic color correction and audio cleanup skills

  • Familiarity with social platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts

Compensation

  • Contract-to-hire opportunity

  • Target full-time salary range: $65,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience, skill set, and portfolio

  • Initial contract compensation will be discussed based on experience and engagement structure

  • Opportunity for long-term growth within a rapidly expanding performance creative team

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Hybrid model: primarily remote

  • Required availability for in-person shoot days

  • Balanced workload with occasional high-volume iteration cycles

  • Fast feedback loops and performance-driven creative decisions

  • Clear creative direction from leadership, with opportunity to contribute ideas

You will collaborate closely with the Creative Director, who leads concept development and strategy. This role is execution-forward but values thoughtful creative input.
