Job description

Generator Service Technician

Detroit, MI (Field-Based Territory)

Overview

Are you looking for an opportunity to work on commercial and industrial power generation equipment while enjoying the independence of managing your own territory?

Our client is a nationally recognized provider of critical power solutions supporting customers across manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, data centers, construction, and other mission-critical industries. With long-standing customer relationships and a reputation for quality service, they've built one of the largest service organizations in the industry.

This is a home-based field service position, allowing technicians to work from their assigned territory rather than reporting to a shop each day. You'll also benefit from the support of a nationwide service organization with the parts availability and technical resources needed to be successful in the field.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel-powered generator systems
  • Troubleshoot engines, electrical systems, controls, and ATS equipment
  • Respond to scheduled maintenance and emergency service calls
  • Perform load bank testing and system diagnostics
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and service documentation
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while managing your territory
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have experience with some combination of:

  • Commercial generator service
  • Diesel engine repair
  • Electrical troubleshooting
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
  • Controls and power generation systems
  • Independent field service

Experience servicing Cummins, Kohler, CAT, MTU, Generac, or similar commercial generator platforms is preferred.

What Sets This Opportunity Apart?
  • Home-based territory
  • Take-home service truck
  • Support from a nationwide parts and service network
  • Stable customer base with long-term commercial relationships
  • Ongoing manufacturer training
  • Opportunity to support critical infrastructure customers where reliability matters most
