What is a Remote DevRel?

A Remote DevRel, or Developer Relations professional working remotely, is responsible for building relationships between a company and its developer community without being tied to a physical office. Their tasks include creating technical content, engaging with developers online, advocating for developer needs within the company, and representing the company at virtual events. Remote DevRels use digital platforms to communicate, educate, and support developers globally, helping foster a vibrant and engaged community around a product or service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DevRel, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DevRel, you need a strong background in software development, excellent communication skills, and experience in community engagement or advocacy, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with code repositories (like GitHub), documentation tools, and social media or developer community platforms is essential, along with familiarity with APIs and cloud services. Outstanding interpersonal skills, adaptability, and self-motivation make someone stand out in this remote role. These skills and qualities are important to effectively build trust with developer communities, represent the company, and facilitate technical adoption from a distance.

How does a Remote DevRel professional effectively collaborate with product and engineering teams across different time zones?

Remote DevRel professionals often work asynchronously with global product and engineering teams, using communication tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms to stay aligned. Successful collaboration requires proactive communication, clear documentation, and flexibility in scheduling meetings to accommodate various time zones. Building strong relationships virtually and being responsive to team needs helps ensure that community feedback is accurately represented in product development. Regular check-ins and updates are key to maintaining momentum and fostering a cohesive team environment.

Builder Operations Associate

Remote

Contractor

Posted 17 days ago

Job description

We believe that the onchain platform is the most important builder platform since the internet ("online"). We believe that the onchain platform should be open source, free to use, and globally available. And we believe that in order to make it really work, we need all hands on deck, working together to scale in a secure, decentralized, easy-to-use way.

At Base, we live by our Stay Based values: we do the right thing, work hard, stay optimistic, prioritize the team, and push creative boundaries - all while building the future of onchain. We value a Zone 3+ work ethic, where our team rises to the challenge, embraces hard weeks, and makes small to significant personal tradeoffs when necessary to drive impact and innovation.

Base is incubated within Coinbase and plans to progressively decentralize in the years ahead. We believe that decentralization is critical to creating an open, global crypto economy that is accessible to everyone.

As a Builder Operations Associate on the Base team, you'll own the systems, support workflows, and builder experience across Base's Discord, Reddit, and other community channels. These channels are critical destinations for developers seeking technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and connection with the broader Base ecosystem. You'll ensure technical questions receive timely, accurate responses while building scalable processes that keep these communities effective and secure.

What you'll do:

  • Own day-to-day technical community operations across Base Discord and Reddit, ensuring builder questions are acknowledged, triaged, and resolved consistently.
  • Design and implement structured ticketing and escalation systems for technical support requests, including issue categorization, severity levels, SLAs, ownership, and closure criteria.
  • Build and maintain Discord and Reddit infrastructure, including channels, roles, permissions, bots, AutoModerator rules, moderation tooling, and workflow automations.
  • Develop reusable responses, troubleshooting guides, FAQs, and internal playbooks that improve answer quality and reduce repeated manual work.
  • Create operational dashboards tracking response time, resolution time, ticket volume, escalation rate, recurring issue categories, and builder satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to use Discord and Reddit beyond reactive support, including peer-support systems, product feedback loops, and builder recognition.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years in technical community operations, developer support, DevRel operations, or a related role, ideally within crypto, open-source software, or developer platforms.
  • Hands-on experience administering large Discord communities, including bots, roles, permissions, channel architecture, integrations, and workflow automation.
  • Experience operating technical communities on Reddit, including AutoModerator, moderation queues, post flair, wiki tools, and subreddit governance.
  • Working knowledge of onchain development concepts, including wallets, transactions, smart contracts, RPC infrastructure, bridges, and common developer tooling.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical developer questions, troubleshoot effectively, and communicate solutions clearly to audiences with different levels of expertise.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
